Making Napkin Vanish?

Struggling with an effect? Any tips (without giving too much away!) you'd like to share?

 There is a better way to do this trick other than an extremely expensive and painful palm pocket surgical procedure surely!

There's a very old method which involves a 1-2-3 count and then chuck the rolled up napkin over the spectators' head. It's an amusing routine...

1. Take a paper napkin, roll it into a ball and push into your fist
2. Stand square-on to the spectator
3. Using a rhythmic count, draw back the hand holding the napkin to your shoulder level, count "ONE" and simultaneously 'throw' the arm forward so the fist goes just above the spectators' head.
4. Withdraw the hand, and open the fist as you do so. Look in the hand, the napkin is still there
5. Count "TWO" and repeat the process of step 3 and 4
6. For the third count, you LET GO of the napkin so unseen to the spectator, it goes over their head. When you withdraw your hand, it's empty.

This is a great pleaser for a kids' show, but it also amuses adults too.

I can't think of the originator, but I am quite sure it was Catherine T. Pult, although most people called her Kat.

I think your all being extremely cruel. And niave.

You seem to be overlooking the fact that person showing the trick was a kung fu master and was in all likelihood just using real magic.

if he had said ninja master then i'd agree with you but a kunfu master utilises chi in all its varieties so unless he was confusing his mind into thinking it had vanished i'd have tp disagree. :D

barring real magic i can see three scenarios:-

1) use of a gimick / ardvark to disguise the napkin which remains in plain sight.
2) a combination of slieghts to remocve the napkin from the hand.
3) sleights and a gimmick called a silk vanisher.

given the limited hearsay evidence from the poster i'd say its more likly to be 1).

maybey the origional poster will have some comments.

I am know wondering if we described the trick explicitly in full the original poster would believe us

Especially given the earlier link with the arm hanging out of the drawer.

OK...this thread is funny, I'll admit it, but let me just clear this up for you.

Nobody is going to tell you how it works here. A lot of the other posts are jokes. If you didn't get that go learn a sense of humour ;).

Anyway, the video you would have seen on that link is the demonstration video. If you buy the effect you will then receive the explanation, which tells you how to do it. You're not going to get anything for free.

You actually have a fake handkercheif that you only think that you see due to clever light, and he pretends to stuff it into his hand

There

Go try

I think you will be quite surprised by what you get, but go along with it, it will work, honest!
