A Beautiful Assistant

Postby Arthur » Feb 8th, '06, 15:17

Hi all.

Can anybody suggest a trick or two, which requires the help of a beautiful assitant? i am fortunate enough to have one, and would love to saw her in half, or make her disappear, or even divide into two beautiful assistants..

I haven't seen very much in the way of magic shows, but I've certainly seen copperfield and the like doing these kinds of things to their ladies.
I realise these are large-scale productions, full of elaborate gimmicks, which I'm not really into at all.

I would like to have at least one trick in which I can involve her (not as a spectator!), so please make some suggestions if you know of a trick which might appeal.

How about some sort of two-person telepathy test...where she can be the psychic, and read the minds of the audience.

All old-age mentalism, etc...spirits cabernets and things...oooh, spooky

Marriage. Or is that a trick too far?

Already mastered that one, Aporia.

She is my beloved wife, and mother of my children, so we probably already know lots of non-magical tricks.

MAGIC tricks only, please!

Depending on what type of magic you're into...

Trouble is, if it's anything 'mental' then she'd be an instant candidate for suspicion of being a stooge (Mrs Seige is always accused of being 'in on it').

However, ILLUSIONS are a different matter.

FIRST SUGGESTION

A GREAT effect to perform that is inexpensive and rather exciting is the old 'twisting head' illusion, which can be done with a box, bucket, or anything that will cover her head.

The premise could be: "Don't you ever wish that sometimes your woman would turn a blind eye? They seem to have eyes in the back of their head, and always seem to be watching you. Almost like an owl!"

SECOND SUGGESTION
___________________

Women are very delicate beings (well, most of them...!)
Why not do a candle thru arm, or other such illusion? Sure, it's fun to do these things to yourself, but if your other half does them, you can concentrate on being the magician.

THIRD SUGGESTION

On the 'delicate' women theme, why not put her at danger?

Something like this.

There's also a book available by Andrew Mayne (who is the RazorWire author) which explains how to build stage type illusions...

do you need to involve her in a trick?
i once got a very cute and enthusiastic girl to come and stand with me, calling her my beautiful assistant, and all i got her to do was hold my card box. she loved it anyway. and others found it hilarious

I bet she did. Whenever I've asked attractive stranger to hold my box, I get a very different response.

And for my next trick, I shall make my wand disappear into my beautiful assistant's box..

Kinda reminds me of that 'magic show' I watched whilst on holiday in Amsterdam.

I'd have said a psychic routine myself. Perhaps a psychic mobile phone call. You hand the mobile phone to the spec who has just picked a card and who's eyes suddenly become like saucers as the "psychic" reveals what it is.

Not your fault Larry.. It's that filthy-minded Aporia that starts all the trouble

Thanks for suggestions everyone, I like a lot of them.
I'd best go down to B+Q and get some provisions to build some props, methinks.

This probably means I'll be obligated to buy her a suitable dress as well, *sigh*.

What about the one where you cover the coin with a cloth, get people to check that it is there, then it vanishes!
