2 card monte

Does it happen to you that people turn the cards over when they shouldn't? How do you do to stop making that happening?

try making them hold thier hands so theyre in an awkward position to turn over. try making them clench a fist and hold it side ways then put the cards under the persons thumb and this position theyll have to use the other hand to turn them over and you can see this and stop them by doing something to the cards and act like your in the middle of something!

oh ye one more tip talk to them constantly crack or joke or walk them through what you are doing and try to keep eyecontact most the time

tell them about 3 card monte, and emphasis that they have to follow the backs of the cards, i find that stops them turning them.
also i like to give them the first card face up and then act like ive done it wrong and turn it over saying "sorry, you're supposed to be following the backs of the cards here...." or something

yeah, and also hold their hand down toward the ground. you give them the two cards and then lower it almost down to their hips (maybe further)

?!~

Oz Pearlmans Born To Perform has a good version of this. He covers this well and makes the spectator keep their hands well down.

However, I still came unstuck doing it, a child was sitting on the floor, saw the change because he could see under the cards ands shouted out the secret.

I have had him killed and eaten but it blew that performance!

I watched kard klub 1 yesterday and I really liked it. Now I can do it without the spectators turning over the cards. And in the end I pick them out of their pocket:) thats awsome

kard klub 1? that brad christiansen? do you find his teaching is so incredibly slow? (i watched about a half an hour video on how to do the shapeshifter change, i learnt it in about a minute somewhere else).
also, did you pay for the video?

I liked it. He showed different ways to do the changes and so. And then they showed videos from diffent people that do 2 card monte, and he say what they are doing good and what they could do better. You will learn from their misstakes.

you could try not to go straight for the kill, try a few times without actually doing anything, and ask them to turn it over, each time so they can see the card you give them is actually the card they expected, this way they are a little off balance as they wont know what to expect!, 2 times should be adiqate, with a little banter, then make your move.

another way is to grab and position their hand where you want it, and casually ask them not to move it from that position! its supprising how well this works.
when Gregory Wilson dose the monty, he places the card in their palm leaving his thumb on top and moving the rest of his hand under theirs and lightly pushing down while saying "can you feel that this card is slightly heavier than a regular card" and then he says something like "it should feel heavier, im doing this!" (pushing down lightly).
not sure why this works , but this seems to stop them turning over their hand and the card! (maybe their still thinking about the cards weight)

you will always get someone who wont play nicely and will try to catch u out whatever you do, 'Killjoy',,,difficult to avoid really.
hope this helps, gl with Experimenting with it

yeah i've seen it, it was... interesting, didn't really change the way i did the trick though. well, made me sure i should keep going with the topchange rather than a bottomchange.
(noticed you avoided answering the paying for the video question ;))

Here's a tip I picked up, and it might sound stupid, but always try and be down to the height of the lowest spectator.

This has helped me to make sure no body spots anything in my AC

Keep looking them into their eyes, and speak with them, so they must look in your eyes..

I ususally always nail the 2 card monte. Its because I am strict with that trick and tell people its mind game and if you dont follow them face down I dont know how good you are at following things lol. The trick will fail me once and a while if a heckler turns them right away. But usually I only do magic to people that want magic done to them and you are sure they will follow the rules.

I say its a memory game so if you look at the cards then there is no point in doing the trick.

Then they don't look :D
