coin in soda can

Now I love this trick from the Criss Angel Dvd and have got it down quite nicely and have had some great reactions from people.
Now what I find is a bit of a problem is catching someone with an unopened can. I have done this routine with a can I've pulled out and had them inspect but at the end I get a good reaction but a aire of cynisism comes over them when they comment "Aaah but it was your can wasn't it".
Do I drag someone to a newsagents and get them to buy a can themselves? Was just wondering if anyone else has found this slight problem.
Also I've had a few annoyed people when I start pouring their drink on the pavement.

i think this trick can only really be performed at parties, you do have to run up to someone as they grab a can and go "hang on, hang on... can i show you a trick" but this doesn't really put them in the right mood.
grabbing a can from a box and doing it perhaps (again, party environment)
or... an idea, do a healed and sealed can trick followed immediatly by the coin to can trick! you could do that when someone has finished their drink

Does this mean I have to start going to parties?! Ohhh poo. Organised fun....run for your lives!
Actually I'm off to a party on Saturday....Good plan!

Only fearful that the owner of the house might mind me pouring beer / soft drink on their carpet.....no I'll use a cup

I could drink the beer then choke on the coin, swallow it and do the reveal two days later in the toilet.....ok maybe not.

you could always just poor the contents into a glass. If there ain't a pint glass around then neck the contents of the punch bowl and poor it into there. Not only have you performed a fantastic trick but you also have a interesting base for your next punch.

Note: The Magic Evmeister supports responsible drinking, unless you're on the p**s with me.

It's noticeable on the DVD that Angel either purs into a glass or pours the contents out onto the street. Maybe he doesn't like Cola

I think that drinking from the can raises suspicion.

Larry - it's not the way

Sinajar - stop looking too hard for the opportunities and let the opportunities find you!

If you're around cafe's etc. then you're more likely to find that people have cans.

For anyone who doesn't frequently do magic in cafe's I think a BBQ or house party is the best place you can do this trick. I don't think messing around with someone elses can (who you don't know) is a very good way to start a trick. At a party you can ask someone you don't know (or someone you know) if they'd like to see something interesting. All but the most dormant of party goers will happily say yes - especially if they've already "had a few", as they say. Then you can ask them to pass you a can from the crate and perform the trick. I think it is important to get them to pass you the can as they get to decide the can and they can be reasonable sure you didn't put a gimmicked can in there half an hour before or something (unless you carry around a crate of gimmicked cans to parties and allow people to freely drink from it).

I don't have this trick yet, but I'm tempted to get it. I'm sure my next payday will provide appropriate inspiration.

Outside a vending machine...

Say to everyone: "Hey, you guys wanna see a trick? I'll need a can of coke for this." Then just buy a drink there and then and then do the trick? I haven't got the trick but I think that would be a way seeing as it's totally ungimmicked?

I like that idea. Very cool and very situational.
