It's a nice move, and the pivot is learned and honed by watching the exact points Reed is touching/holding the cards. Mimic this and you'll get a good start point.
Angle sensitive? This isn't really an effect I'd aim to do surrounded anyway, as the front-on audience is your goal.
Practice this one—it's a stunner. The only thing I had initial problems with is card chatter during the twists, but I found that moist fingers and more gentle movements is the key.
There's far more to this than a simple twist—it can be used fantastically as a prelude to most effects using four cards because the cards are ungimmicked.
