The Differance from plastic playing cards to the proper ones

Postby arkos » Feb 20th, '06, 22:47

Hey was just wondering how much better the proper ones are? i know they are way better but would it make card tricks easier? like doing double lifts and stuff like that, i notice certain card tricks i try can be pretty tough sometimes. Just wondering your thoughts and what would be the best type to buy, i heard bicycle are the going brand, but im from australia so im not sure if we sell them type here but im going to look on ebay.

Thanks.

Plastic Coated Cards are, how can I put it....

c*** (not the best)

If you have a local magic shop (or a not-so-local ), then they should sell you them

100% Plastic cards aren't the best option for card magic. Many brands are slippery and hard to handle.

Bicycle, Tally-Ho and any USPCC cards are a good choice.

No, Bikes etc are not plastic coated as far as I can tell. They have some sort of waxy finish instead. Plastic coated cards are the ones you buy for 99p in a Tesco value case.

Hence the reason for my edit - Kati. I read Kev's post wrong.

My friend has a poker set that he bought his Dad, but we use it more than he does....

Anyway, the cards in that are plastic coated and they never want to use my cards even though I offer, and I find the exact opposite of what you said Demitri.

I find that the cards stick together and are very rough and make a horrible sound when rubbed together

That's why I said 100% plastic cards - not plastic coated. :D

I agree that! though i cannot tell what is platic or not, but i always use bicycle. In most video and shows, the magicans always use this card. Though it is a little bit expensive in China^.^

As far as I know they do sell Bikes there in Aus (have spoken to atleast one other Ausi magician) & they shouldn't be all that expensive...

Plastic cards do have their advantages especially when performing in pubs/bars etc where there is a chance of them getting wet which would ruin your average pasteboard card, the downside as mentioned though is that you can't do your fancy cardwork with them... though of course these types of tricks are generally lost on your average drunk

You probably have online magic shops in oz - just googled and came up with a few.

You may want to consider ordering from one of the international magic sites - If you are starting out and decide to invest in a few dvds/books/etc then you could always buy a brick of bicycles along with the order. May come to be better value, even when adding shipping.

And yes - plastic playing cards are no good for magic - except possibly for learning to waterfall shuffle or spring the cards, as they are more durable.

Fournier cards are plastic coated cards and are very good for magic

I:m in OZ too, and #$('% that site is expensive! Are those prices what you pay internationally? OZ always pays more for stuff than anyone else it seems....

I saw this one on TV once
