The Ambitionus Card - Story Line

Postby takeiteezzy.terry » Feb 28th, '06, 09:32

Hi guys, I'm new to this magic scheme and have just learned the ambitious card. While I'm still practicing all those moves, can some of you masters recommend me a story line for the whole thing to be smooth and cool. It can also be humorous. Thank you

There are quite a few threads on this kind of thing if you use the search engine.

Just a thought though, does it need to be a story? I find people react better ehen I do something like teach them 'the sectret move' (snapping my fingers or somehing) and the card keeps coming to the top/my mouth/the bottom etc.

Patter for your amibitious card will depend on how you perform it. It also depends on whether you are what Brad Christian refers to as an "ambitious purist" - which means you're only going to have the card come to the top of the deck each time, nowhere else.

Personally I feel that being an "ambitious purist" is too self limiting to be an interesting effect. If you can have it do all sorts of things then you can make it much more entertaining.

My personal routine has their card do this:
-Come to the top
-Go to the bottom
-Go into the middle of the deck face down, then when the deck is turned face up their card stays face down in the middle.
-After showing a card the middle of the deck and putting it on the top of the deck, the signed card switches place with it from face down in the table.
-From the bottom half the deck to the top of the top half of the deck (which is on the other side of the table or in the spectators hands
-From the middle back to the top with a big visible bend in it
-Finish off by taking a folded, paper-clipped card from my pocket and showing it next to their card, then placing their card into the deck then unclipping the paperclipped card and unfolding it to show that it is their signed card.

At the moment that is the full extent of my ambitious card routine. There are a few things that I wanna include in there as I progress this routine, such as an erdnase change, their card appearing in my pocket and some stuff that will involve the spectator more. However, I don't think you can find a stronger way to end it than with the paperclipped card.

As far as a story goes you just need to find the most amusing reasons you can come up with for why the card is where it is. Something I haven't done fully yet but I'm working on it.

What is Brad talking about? In Revelations Vernon describes his routine, which not only had a card flying every which way, but was for the most part improvised.

I'm with you on this one evmeister.

Terry, Ambitious Card isn't really a trick, but more of a plot. Everyone has their own unique take on it and thats as it should be. You need to start to think about your own style and how you want to express yourself. That doesn't mean you can't steal a few ideas though.

Sorry Jamez, I should've pointed out that brad is AGAINST this "ambitious purism". He wants you to have it coming from all over the place. In fact, on Crash Course 2 (which deals exclusively with the Ambitious Card) a chapter called "ambitious purist" is where he lays out his argument for having the card do a variety of things and go to a varitey of places. There's loads of things on that DVD that anyone can include in their ambitious card routine. Great DVD.

:D Thanks for clearing that up evmeister, I was in the process of dragging out my soapbox. So if not Brad, who is an "ambitious purist"?

Anyone who thinks the ambitious card should only involve the card coming to the top of the deck.

 Truism; I was wondering if Brad was making any specific accusations, or if you know anyone who takes this position.

I thought Crash Course 2 was pretty good. I like Brad's teaching style and although I haven't taken my whole routine from their it has certainly provided me with a few interesting ideas.

I watched David Regal's veron today and he has a fanrastic presentation. He has the spectator draw a poodle on the card and goes through a load of different phases of it coming back to it's owner. It's really good.

magic_evmeister;

I really like the way you implemented Jay Sankeys paperclip as an ending of your ACR. Nice idea.... I might do that myself...

How many moves in a row should I put into one sequence. Like 5? or more? I was actually thinking of combining Ninja 12 and Crash 12 everything...
