That's a hard one. Depends on your skill level.

"Out of this world" is one of my favs - it's dead easy to do and it's very hard hitting

QUESTION:
If we can sue McDonalds for making us fat and cigarette companies for giving us cancer; why can't we sue Smirnoff for all the ugly gits we've sh*gged ??

I'm bound to say it so groan now. Have you thought of starting with a decent handful of self working effects, working out the underlying mechanisms and building it back into your own effect? No need for gaffs, just some joined up thinking. I like to introduce lots of random factors to make sure every possibility for discovering the mechanism is a cul-de-sac

Some tricks...

OOTW (Out Of This World) is a non-gimmicked card trick, with some variatoins (impromptu and those who require a set-up). Search on the web and you'll certainly find some variations of it. I like it alot, it's just that too many ppl seem to know this trick so I rarely do it.
Here's a couple i like (and are quite easy to perform):
-Wighted aces (from GW's Double take)
-Two wrongs do make a right (GW's Double Take)
-Do as I do (penguin-style)
...+ colour changes (they're the coolest thing)
...also some easy 4 Aces tricks...

Just buy the Royal Road To Card Magic (book) and a deck of bikes and sit down for several hours a night for several months. You will learn sleights and some quite decent tricks at quite a reasonable price.
