Ventriloquist kid

Postby MagicTom » Mar 5th, '06, 21:07

I know this isnt directly magic but its sure related and its something else i do.

This video seems to have got a good response. It was done very rushed and improvised but somehow got a good response.

There are a few things like me looking down for some reason when the puppet is talking.
(and my lips twitch once or twice - they shouldnt have - silly lips)

Please take a look and enjoy!

ps - vent always has a better effect live but here we go!

hehehe

thanks!

Some of its my own, some i have got from watching other performers and some of its adapted. (i think)

It was semi-improvised i did know of those jokes before and i had a rough idea of what i was gonna say / do.

Thanks for your kind comments.

Very nice, wish I could do ventriloquism that well! You gave the bear a nice character and made it come to life for the audience.
Good work!

Bl**dy brilliant!

At least, I haven't had much vent experience and it looked perfect to me :D.

I may as well post my critisisms on here as well, for all to see.

You take a sharp intake of breath while Freddie is laughing and you don't look at the audience or Freddie ALL the time.

But, like I said (and have told you) I thionk this is great - You are very talented.

Cheers,

Chris Pitt (AKA Pitto)

woah!

Thanks guys!

Yes, there were a few things that could have been improved. The not "lookign at Freddie" is just a bad habit. I once entered a comp to find out this sort of thing and 3 /4 judges mentioned this i think - i try not too - its just one of those habits.

Moving around - prob cuz I'm sat on a swivel chair (hehe) i usually stand with Freddie sat on a designed table so i hope i dont dance in my performances! LOL!

And yes - the BIG breath - hehe - I'l ltry to sort that one! hehehe!

OK - Questions

It took me about a year to learn. I attended vaious "puppet festivals" put on by One Way Uk (A christian organsiation) and saw an american vent called Vikki Gasko (VERY VERY Good) then earlier this year i saw another called "Judy Buch" who also is very good.

Its not as hard as people think- once you get started its fairly easy. then its just time for character building etc!

I recently bought a traditional figure which blinks and moves eye balls etc
Still working on him!

If anyone is interested i can PM you a basic vent sheet i made up for somebody once.
Its just the basic principles etc

Anyway
thanks very much all for your kwl comments.
Much appreciated!

ToM!

Nice one Tom! There are one or two other Vents who pop in to TM from time to time so you're amongst friends!
