ropes not sliding

Postby Option » Mar 7th, '06, 08:25

I have a rope trick. 2 ropes are wrapped around each other inside a tight space. They have to slide along each other for the trick to work. But it's so tight that it takes all my strength to do it!!

Is there a way to treat the (cotton?) ropes to make them slide along each other more easlily? :?:

The problem is the compactness of the ropes together. Treating ropes will not aid you here and will make the ropes look and feel strange. You need to loosen them up somehow.

I assume that you're using a cotton rope and there are in fact different weaves of cotton but you have to shop around. I find that most magic rope is a poor quality weave in comparrison to other ropes and it 'bobbles' (produces fluff) when cut and used in some rope effects. This can be very annoying.

It's not really an optical illusion - it just looks like one!
