So, whats next for MAGIC?

Postby Gratel » Mar 16th, '06, 16:22

magic has involved for as long as mankind. First, those dark and spiritual magic, next came stage magic(is escapology under this?), then parlour magic or micro magic, now street magic, followed by xcm-flourishy type.

So, whats next for MAGIC?

(p.s sorry if my 2 second history of magic is wrong and i missed out other forms of magic, its just a rough sketch, so correct me if i was wrong).

I think there will be more steps into the "interactive" magic ideas, using CD's and DVD's as the basis of an effect.

There's an effect called Weather or Not that uses this principle. All of the set up is done by an audience, and random spectators select aspects to create a weather forecast. When they're done, a cd is played which reports the exact forecast the spectators' came up with.

I believe it's David Acer who has a card through window style effect using a TV and DVD. It actually sounds kind of cool. A spec selects a card, and it is lost in the deck. The performer then springs the cards against a TV screen and one card "Sticks" to it, the back facing the audience. The spec then goes to retrieve the card, only to find it's not ON the TV but IN it. The scene on the screen is a busy street, with people walking here and there. At one point a man walks towards the camera, reaches out and takes the card. He turns it to show the TV audience and it's the selected card.

There are other effects using these kinds of things, and I think it might be something that is expanded upon in the future. I could be wrong though.

I think the word that you're looking for is evolved rather than involved.

If cups and balls has survived to this day from a few thousand years ago then I think that the 'classics' will survive a little longer.

It's not really an optical illusion - it just looks like one!

I don't think the classic stuff will ever be filtered out - and they shouldn't be.

I've got the David Acer effect. And though dubious at first I tested it out after the pub and lo and behold - a stunning effect!! DVD magic assistants could be the future!!!
