Card routine

Postby arkos » Mar 26th, '06, 04:44

Hey guys this is my 1st video attempt, i have only been learning card tricks for a few months so dont go too hard on me ;) Its pretty sloppy in alot of parts but its just an idea i came up with, most of its from the ambitious card routine but i through somthing of my own in at the end.

That was quite good if you have just started magic :D

Well done :D

After you did the DL, you slid the card off of the deck. To me, this looks un-natural. Try pushing the top card over with your thumb to the right and then picking it up with the right hand.

Also, just work on your shuffle more and you will be able to do it quicker and smoother

I liked the last bit, where the Queen of Diamonds changed into the Queen of Hearts :D

Thanks kev, i seem to slide it off in that fashion even when not doing double lifts but i see what you mean, but im left handed so hold the deck in my right hand so i can push off to the right, but i guess pushing off to the left would be the same but the other way around in my case, and i agree with the shuffling hehe. Thanks for the comments and tips.

Well,... As a Card lover... I have to say one thing,... try to handle the cards in a smoother way,... treat them carefully.

If instead of a deck of card they were pegeons... at the end of the video you will end with your hands full of blood

About the performance I could say that at the begginig I was kinda lost... try to pause at the needed time and to go fast when you need to.

One more thing and I'll stop with it :D Do it as many times as you need until you don't have to think what you are doing. In many moments in the video you notice how you doubt about,... "should I turn the hand this way or it was the other..."

Hope you don't mind my critiques, they are all constructive and not destructive.

Hope to see more of yout videos.

Nah its all good advice man, and i agree with you 110%

To my defense thoe i only came up with the routine the day i posted it, and ive only been doing card magic for 1-2 months, it definatly needs alot of practice, and it was a bit too fast i agree there too, but noone else has had a problem with understanding the trick so far, lay or magician, its basically the ambitious card routine but i chucked somthing in at the end that i put together.

To a laymen, that would have looked perfect. We only notice these things because we do them every single day

That's right :)

To your performance:

It was done good. But try to get a certain... smoothness into your movements... Take a mirror or a webcam and look at your performance in a spectators view. If you think, this could cheat a spectator, then it's not bad. If you think, this could cheat a magician, than it's perfect :D

And as NaipesEnJuego already said.

"In many moments in the video you notice how you doubt about,... "should I turn the hand this way or it was the other..." "

Try to solve that, and you will become a lot more self-confident :)

Edit: Just a few hints from a newb, to a newb ;)

Nice job.

Not sure this was mentioned yet, but a few things I noticed:

Work on how you turn over your doubles. The method you use in the beginning of the video works, but it's not a natural way of turning over a card. Look into things like a push off DL or a strike double - both are more natural in appearance.

Second - before you start your overhand shuffle, you flashed the QD on the bottom of the deck. In a true performance this wouldn't be seen (since the spec would be looking down on the deck) but for the sake of videos like this, you should be wary of the angle of your deck to the camera.

Aside from that, just work on speed and fluidity. Others have mentioned handling the cards more smoothly. This all comes with time my friend. You're off to a great start. Keep going and your moves will be like butter.
