N00b at magic, need help with snap change postiton.

Postby Delude » Apr 9th, '06, 16:58

Hey, as you can tell by the subject, yes i suppose i am a n00b at magic. I have been experimenting with magic on and off for about 2 years now and have decided to get some books about it and stick to it because i want to progress. In Torquay (Devon) i went to a great magic shop and bought a book that has a load of tricks including the snap change. I have tried that postitioning of fingers and read it loads and looked at the pictures but for some reason the cards ALWAYS slip. However, i have looked over the internet and seen videos of people using the snap change and their finger postion is differnt and seems to be much more effective. http://www.zippyvideos.com/209384011465075.html that is one where the finger postition is differnt to the one that is in my book.

The postitioning i have used is to put the (right hand) thumb on the left long side of the card, have the first finger bent on top of the card and the second finger at extreme end on the long right side.

Please could you maybe watch the video in the above link and/or tell me which finger position you use for the snap change and try to help me get it right and learn :D

Thanks so much.

Hi Delude!
I keep my thumb low, near bottom.
Don't really wanna go into detail but thumb at bottom works for me. x

That's a wierd position. I position them the same as the guy in that video you showed us, but then just a little higher.

Slyszer, do you think you could pm me a detailed description of where yu place your fingers and thumb and how you snap it? i much prefer it the way in the video to the way in my book.

Thanks In Advance :D

Also, does anybody know if the mentalism trick where you stop your pulse is that safe? Can it harm you in any way? it really freaks people out.

This way looks really good but is very hard to do. Don't worry everyone, i got the video of penguinam gaic and i can do it the other way now :D The way it tells me in my book is so much easier to reset, i mean you can keep snapping the cards and change it back and forth, i suppose its best to learn both ways.

By the way, has anybody heard of the tricks Nemesis Or Hitman? Really visual and easy to perform, not many sleights are used. :D
