Exactly the point. It isn't necessary, yet in Angel's human torch stunt he DID use an edit, for whatever reason. Very unfortunate.

You know - I had my rebuttal all ready to go, and then I realized... what is the point.

You are set in your opinion, so there's really no point in debating this any further. You think you're right - I think I'm right. You can't prove your argument 100%, and neither can I. Rather than drag it out for days, I'm just going to walk away.

I would much rather concentrate on more constructive contributions to this forum. As someone who claims to have 20+ years of professional performance experience - I would hope you have more to contribute than this.

I noticed the crowd was different as soon as the mist cleared on that performance and it made me groan and i'll explain why.

I do alot of impromptu illusions, but I get bummed out by more and more people saying something like this:

"Oh yippee, you made the coin vanish.... but can you walk across water,up that wall, fly over to that building, teleport me up there with you, set yourself on fire jump off the roof and appear ontop of an elephant and then explode into a million pieces?"

"uhhh no"

"well criss angel can at any moment he feels like it"

I just feel he is raising the bar for people like me because they see his "impromptu" tricks and TV and think he can really pull off some of the stuff in front of real people in real time.

Well, I think that's the problem. You're assuming that there is a "right" and "wrong" on this issue, when in fact there is not. You and I are neither right nor wrong, since whether or not Angel's clear use of an edit during his fire stunt was appropriate or not is simply a matter of opinion. The fact that he DID use an edit is really the only solid piece of "right or wrong" and since a simple viewing of the video shows quite clearly that he did, that's the only part of this argument that has been "proven" if you will...

Again, I think editing live performances to provide a different effect to the television viewer is not in keeping with the best philosophy of magic. Other professionals I work with agree, some don't. In this form others may disagree, and everyone has a right to their own opinion.

I personally believe the topic is worth of debate and not retreat.
