Hi,

Just a quick introduction...

I got interested in how close up magic and street magic was performed after seeing a guy do the hummer card in a pub when out with my girlfriend.

That started me searching the internet to find out how it was done and I came across this website which looks pretty good so I thought I would signup!

I hope I will be able to learn a lot from you guys, and I have ordered my first two magic tricks to try to master.

Can anyone suggest the best (Not expensive) book or DVD to buy that will cover coin / card magic and include a good number of tricks that I can pickup as a newbie?

what did you order?

I ordered the Hummer Card trick and also ordered The Abyss...

I ordered a pack of playing cards and that is why I am after a decent book to start there first so its not to difficult.

I am not planning on being able to master either of the two tricks I bought for some time, but want to start practicing the hummer card as the effect was amazing when I saw it

Is it better to buy books or DVD's?

I would say both if you have the budget but this can get expensive. I would try not to buy too many packet tricks and gimmicks at the start as you will end up paying too much money for effects you may not be able to perform yet. Best to start with the basics. Have you seen Mark Wilson's complete course in magic book, Amazon or most dealers will have this. It covers a wide range of magic

Any of the Fulves self-working books.
Easy to Master Card Miracles DVDs (Michael Ammar) there are 8 in the set, you can buy these seperate.

Bit of a warning to you - this hobby can get expensive if it takes a grip.

Welcome to TM. I agree with Stephen. I would also add “The Complete Introduction to Coin Magic by Michael Ammar” DVD, as this will teach you a lot of the basic moves required for coin magic.

Welcome to TM, you have already been advised on the best books and dvd's for card and coin magic so I can not realy make any suggestions. But I will agree with Stephen that "The Royal Road to Card Magic" book and 5 disk DVD's are perfect! Buy them both as they work well together.

There is a good coin book "Modern Coin Magic" by J.B.Bobo, but I found it quite hard going for a beginer so I purchased Jay Sankey's Revolutionary Coin Magic.

I am going to have to build up slowly and try not to spend to much so will think about getting one of the suggested books this month and go from there
