I want to ask but am not sure how...

Postby SA12 » Jun 30th, '06, 09:10

I know you cant ask about tricks, but I have instructions on DVD on how to do tricks.

What I am after is someone to point me in the right direction as to exactly what two things I need to buy and what sort of shops would stock them.

(The do say in the DVD but they use american names for it and I want to me sure what I am buying is right first time)

It would probably be better to do this via PM so as not to discuss it on the board.

Again, I am not after secrets, I will PM you what I am looking for, two items and all I want is someone to tell me what I would ask for in the shop, and what sort of shops would stock it?

Thanks!

What are the DVDs so that people who own them can step forward to help you out?

The particular trick I am trying to learn is called "Gone" and involves vanishing a coin.

I am after names of UK stores that sell the two items that are required to do this trick.

Thanks!

Do you mean this one? http://www.themagicgadget.co.uk/Gone-by ... -1495.html if so, any number of online stores may be able to help. Try Alakazam, The Magic Gadget, emagictricks, magicbox, cards4magic, magictricks - Google will show dozens more places selling magical accessories but you'll have to tell them exactly what you want in terms of the effect you mention.

Hi Tomo,

Thanks for that but I wanted to go and buy the supplies today rather than order them on the internet.

I think that sewing shops would be a good place for me, but am not sure what name to ask for when I go in?

Also wax must be available from stores somewhere? No?

Thanks for your help!

Yes that is the one, but I am wanting to buy from the shops in my area and make the props myself.

Amy suggestions?

We'd need to know where your area is but to be honest there aren't many brick and mortar magic shops around. If you know what kind of items are needed then craft, sewing and stationery shops may be able to help. Magicians' Wax is not like ordinary wax, it's softer and more sticky. Blu-Tac might be a possible substiutute.

I've never tried it but I get the impression that it's mainly used for polishing furniture so is probably not exactly the right stuff. You'd need to try and play with some before buying if possible.

Ok cool, i'll try and get my hands on some or might buy it anyway if its cheap.

Thanks for the pointers :)

I am sure I will be able to find the (other item) in a local shop and make it myself. I am off to look later today.

Cheers

Ah, come on man, meet me halfway. I know it sounds harsh, but I'm not your search monkey. you;re going to have to do some work here yourself.

I wasn't expecting people to search for me, I was just wondering if anyone on here has allready bought what I am after and could reply with names of shops they had used.

Never mind, I am sorted now anyway. Just gotta get some wax :)
