Ok ive found in my 'Box of tricks' Mcdonalds aces have learnt it but with it you get 4 double backed cards why it doesn't seem like you need it, do you need all 4 of the double backs or what??

You only need three of them.

Out of interest, can anyone tell me what the main differences are between McDonalds Aces and the Dream of Aces routine that's on the Ellusionist web site?

Yes i agree it is a good affect but for one thing, its not clean, performed it on some magic mates, and they said after wow how did you do that, but then said oh wait turn them over, which reveals the backs of the double back.

BUT i had an idea but roughing fluid on the ace faces which so you can spread the backs of the cards- does that sound like it will owrk or is it just stupid.

Here is some history on the trick. I do believe that the young whippersnappers among us would benefit from a bit of education concerning the material they are torturing the public with.

Mac Macdonald was a one armed magic pitchman and the trick was first credited to him around 40 years ago by Vernon and Ganson. It is one of the strongest tricks in existence and is in the same league as "Out of this World" where audience reaction is concerned providing the trick is done properly which of course it very rarely is.

However the trick had nothing to do with Macdonald except that he happened to do it. There is also a description pre Ganson/Vernon in "MY BEST" by J.G. Thompson. The description is written up by Orville Meyer as "the best four ace trick" or something like that.

However the trick is actually over 150 years old. Hofzinser invented it as he did many of the greatest card tricks. He didn't call it "Hofzinsers Aces" as he should have done to keep predatory magic pitchmen like Macdonald from claiming the title. I know what magic pitchmen are like-they are very wicked people.

No. He called it "Power of Faith" and it is essentially what is known today as "Macdonald's Aces" In my capacity as a psychic medium I have received irritated rumblings from the Austrian part of the spirit world from Mr Hofzinser concerning this and he has asked me to put the record straight.

I think people should know a little bit about the history of the art. I can't prove that it makes you a better performer but I think it does and I have no idea why.
