I'm gonna be here for a while. Too hot to sleep, minds busy thinking about stuff and my toothache is back...

Long night for me tonight

Toothache again? Well, if it wasn't a bad tooth last time, are you tense maybe, and clenching your jaw?

Haven't been to the dentists yet...

19 years old. And only one fear.

I am absolutely petrified of dentists...

ah, that sounds like an alright day.
I'm really worried about being on the drugs. and having a doctor go
"ok, so can you count to ten for me please?"
and i'll be
"one, two, err whats next?"
and i know that not being in control of myself is really going to upset me. thats the worst bit of it, i'll be unconscience for the rest, i wont care!

Nah. You won't get out of control, just sleepy and relaxed. Then when they administer the initial general jab you just drift off. It's all very pleasant. The only out of control bit is if you feel sick afterwards, but at least someone else has to clean it up! :D

Well when I was 9, a dentist hit my gum whilst drilling for a filling.

When I was 13, I had my tongue numbed along with my gum. Hence I spent the best part of half an hour desperately trying to avoid throwing up and drowning in it because my tongue had swollen.

My memories of dentists aren't happy. Hence, I am frightened of having people poke sharp bits of metal and stuff in my mouth.
If they'll put me under general anaesthetic, I'll do it no problem...

Ecko, explain it to the dentist. It's in his interest to make you feel comfortable, isn't it. I got mine to show me the needle a few times, to get over the fear of the metal, and we had a long chat about how the local actually works so I could explain to myself what was happening to me. And insist on that lovely goo they smear on too! I always have that, and it's as if he's just waving the thing around instead of doing the business with it.

My top tip for taking your mind off the whole thing is to stare at a point, concentrate on the feeling of your breathing as it enters and leaves your nose, count your breaths up to ten and back down again repeatedly while trying to count your pulse in your wrist. you'll probably hyperventilate a bit, but hey, the chair's comfy and they like you nice and relaxed. there's a jab or a filling or somethng going on somewhere, but it's not important.

I used to be terrified and didn't go for 13 years. Then I broke a molar off at the gumline. I was petrified. The tooth's still there, al nicely built up again, and I've got lots of other nice white fillings too now!
