I have been doing kid shows for about two years now, and my opinion about kids just grew stronger, less mentalisem and cards, no matter how amazing are they, and more colorful funny stuff.
Now, if you are talking about kids around the age of 10-12 years old, maybe you can get away with a 2-3 card tricks, but no more. and believe me I love card tricks and I kick ass with them (mentalisem.. well less, I don't like all the "I am the god that is better then you" shtick) but when it comes to kids with short attention span you really don't want to bore them cuz if you lose them for only a moment you can just try and keep them from running around you like sugar rush freaks. Almost the only card trick I do in my kids show routine is an excuse to use my appearing card castle, which kids go crazy for.
So in other words, if you have jumbo cards, even if only one, make a routine with it.
If you know a card routine that is simple for the lay people to follow, but very funny (and we are talking about "kids funny" to "playboy funny") do it.
If you know magic that revolves a story, like a card tricks that involve a story about the king/queen/jack do it.
If you know any other magic, even stuff you consider lame impromptu but is interesting and maybe colorful - do it.
To help you, here is a routine I thought of that I some times do when I have spare time left in the show or the kid's parents chops off my fire magic bit:
Get a piece of cardboard or what ever, and write on one side "If the card is X clap your hands" with a pic of that card (so it will be more visual), and on the other side of the cardboard write "keep looking at the card".
then in performance all you need to do is force that card on a kid and tell him to show it to the other kids and keep doing so while looking at the card, then go behind him and lift the sign you made, at some point the kid holding the card will look back at you and then just flip the sign, it's funny, not so hard for the kids to follow, and you can make it a running gag out of it, like trying to find the card, asking the kid if that's the card (on a wrong card) go behind him again and then pull the sign up again.
Also, this may not be magic, but you can go to one of those novelty stores, and buy a few funny gimmicks that really don't need any practice but will get a nice laugh and may be even considered by the kids for magic.
Good luck.
