Can anybody help me with my DL please, i dont know why just cant seem to get it smoothly,

Royal road to card magic will help you, DL is one of the basic things in card magic.

What is the problem you're having?

The DL may be a basic move but that doesn't mean that it's easy.
I've spent a lot of time recently working on my DL, and I reckon that to get a killer DL takes a heck of a lot of work.

Tell us more of your problem (if other, previous posts don't answer your questions).

Yeah i know its basic, other stuff im fine with just cant quite get there at the moment

For the record, the search function on this site is absurd. With magic terms like "DL" you'll get roughly a billion results, sorting through that many threads just so an old one gets bumped anyway is a joke.

Secondly, the DL may be a staple in card magic but mastering it is certainly not an easy task. Personally, being new to card magic, the only way I can do a successful and smooth DL is with a thumb count. No matter how hard I try I can't get a push over lift. The problem is that I snag one card, or three or four cards, but rarely only two. When I do get two it's like I'm holding a break inbetween them it's so unclean.

edit: Is that a macro the transforms my DoublexLift into a D/L? If so, that's pretty nice.

londonletmedown, a push-over DL is a particularly difficult DL. No wonder you're having difficulty with it!

The strike DL (which I use) is easier, but still not simple.

Using a thumb count to get a pinky break is probably the easiest way.

There are many different methods, all which have their own problems.

That's why I was asking you, mattmagic, what your particular problem was.

Is the strike DL something that you could explain to me via PM? Or is it one of those things that I need to buy an expensive product to learn?

Sounds like you might mean a "Pinky Count".
Great for not just doubles, but also triples, quadruples etc.

Our friend the_mog produced a short tutorial on the DL a while back.
If you ask him nicely, he might send it to you!
It's about 2MB in size, and VERY useful.

Something which I've found useful is to make sure that you always turn the top card over in the same way, whether you're DLing or not. This means that the specs will always be used to you turning over the cards in this manner, often in situations where it is obviously only one card, so when you turn over a double it will be consistent. If you don't do it quite right it just looks like you fumbled a bit, no biggie.
