Zarrow Shuffle

Postby ace of kev » Jan 3rd, '06, 23:15

This is my performance of the Zarrow Shuffle. You can do this as many times as you like, and it will keep the deck in order

Sorry for the bad quality, I haven't got my DV Cam working yet :(

Comments Welcome :D

Oh, this was created by Herb Zarrow :D

Well done Kev ... thats an excelent shuffle and looks completely fair to me.

I've been learning a few very similar techniques from Daryl's Encyclopedia and they are fabulous ... no body ever picks up on them, especialy if you are in the habbit of doing the riffle shuffle alot.

Also ... i DO like that song ... i've not listened to the radio in a while so i dont it hasnt yet been played to death in my book ... fingers crossed its not a 1 hit wonder.

when squaring up try and do it in one motion so the specs dont see the "stepped" state of the deck.. a good idea is to keep the side of the deck nearest the specs on the table as you start to square up.

Thanks for your comments, and I will try and do that Mog.

The JCB song has been played to death on TMF (music channel), along with Stickwitu and My Humps

Very well done, Kev. I've been practicing my Zarrow shuffle aswell, along with my general shuffling and card handling. You did that well, and I don't think the camera angle was very flattering for you, it was a bit too side on, so when you're doin this for specs, their view will usually be more top down. This means that the 'step' isn't very visible to them. Just keep practicing and make it more fluid and smooth, but well done.

Well, i am afraid on the first go it was quite clear what actually happened. The second was faster so harder to see. You need to provide more cover with your hands.

Also i dont think the displaying of all the cards individually was absolutely nessecary :D

Thanks :D

I displayed them individually incase you couldn't see it on the cam, as it is c*** (not the best) :D

Yeh the first one was rubbish, and I'll work on providing more cover.

I only learnt this today so I thought I would film it to see if you guys had any comments to make it better, and so far you have helped a lot :D Thanks guys :D

On Allen Ackermans DVD series Advanced card teqnique (it's on the shuffles one i think) He uses the top packet of cards as cover by spreading them over.

Zarrow Shuffle

Postby rogue81 » Jul 16th, '06, 00:20

If you are interested in the history and are serious about shuffles, you should then without a doubt pick up Ed Marlos "The Shank Shuffle" Marlo once said "Anything can be done with the shuffle" The book will give you precise differences between Frank Shanks shuffle and Herb Zarrows. A great treatise on shuffles.

Great song, my opinion is that you didn't take enough time to study the technique and the logic of the shuffle. I agree that the angle of the camera doesn't mach the spectator's point of view, but that's not so important. The important thing is that (on the first take) you made it so obvious even for laymen. The second take was better because you didn't repeat the same mistake from the first one. The point is to make it all a one natural move, don't lift the right hand packet that much, I don't agree with someone who said you have to mask the move with your hands. Do you do that while doing a normal riffle shufle? I don't think so. Keep the right hand packet (the side that the specs cabn see) near the table as much as you can while squaring the packets. That way the move will be invisible. And btw did you learn it from Zarrow's video or some other?

Oh, and the speed is good. Nice work, just that about the packet lift and it will be flawless.
