I am looking for a book which is for an intermediate card handler, which includea some good effects, there are some i have looked at but i cant decide

I dont know if royal road to card magic falls into this catograry but its my bible at the moment

No i have that and its a begginers book i have been through it more than once.

try anything by Allan Ackerman/Larry Jennings/Darwin Ortiz.. the books/dvds are mostly intermediate to advanced stuff

I'm sure someone will recommend Expert Card Technique, although I have to say I have bought it recently and am not getting much out of it. It's a bit wordy and the pictures do not always do a great deal to illustrate the move.

It also reads a bit like a science manual; if you're ok with that then give it a try! I can't really get to grips with "the outer phalanx of your right first finger rests at a point halfway along a line between the middle of the outer end of the deck and 2/3 of the way in towards the base of the left thumb on the left side of the upturned deck..."

give me a DVD any day!

The Classic Magic of Larry Jennings. Sooooo much material and stuff that will keep you very busy. For somthing a bit more of a challenge, anything by Paul Gordon.

i would have to disagree with you on that one Farlsborough.I think expert card technique is one of the best intermediate/advanced card books available.
assuming that rrtcm has been read thoroughly then it is an excellent stepping stone from that.
the first book i had was sachs sleight of hand,which is also full of great magic.then i had expert card technique.it was only after i had been reading it for a few months that i found out about royal road.i only wish i had read that fully first and then moved on to expert.
ive now been doing magic for a few years and i still go back to both books quite frequently, along with sachs sleight of hand,expert at the card table etc...
i find the majority of the dvds that i have(apart from revelations) remain in their boxes after the 2cnd or 3rd viewing. i cant praise highly enough these books,as i feel that dvds give you not much more than a performance with a quick run through of how to do it.
i know a lot of people will disagree with this comment,but everyone has their own preference.

I am in a very similar position. I have just read Royal Road and am thinking of buying Expert Card Technique next as i have heard it goes well after reading Royal Road. I have also heard good things about Card College and the Art of Astonishment series by Paul Harris, but as i do not own either of these (yet!) i cannot really comment on them.

I am slowly being turned over to books. I can learn well from DVDs, but have realised that the reactions that i have recieved from tricks i learnt from Royal Road are getting some really good reactions! Not sure whether this is because i put my own style to it instead of copying from the DVD, but it seems to make a difference!

By the way, i've done things in the wrong order, im kind of all over the place with what ive learnt! Have been too tempted by the likes of Torn, Paperclipped and Third Degree Burn (to mention but a few) and have realised i havent properly learnt the basics! Oh well, you live and learn!
