How to wreck your magic effects....

Postby Johnny Wizz » Jul 17th, '06, 10:39

I had an expensive weekend. I was asked to perform at my sister in laws birthday party for adults and children. So I packed a bag with various bits and pieces to work with both halves of the audience.

For the kids I took my Foo Can and did a simple water disappearing and reappearing trick. After each trick I put the items back in the bag and pulled out the next effect. This had the advantage of enabling me to alternate kids / adult effects and provided an easy deck switch medium.

What I didn't realise was that I had not drained the foo can completely and that it subsequently tipped over in the bag. In the process I managed to get a small but devaststing amount of water over various decks of cards which by the time I dicovered them had stained and partly stuck together!

So, unless somebody has a secret method for restoring water damaged cards I am in the market for a new ID, In a Flash deck, half a deck of double backed bikes and a Beyond ESP 2 deck!! Expensive party for me.

As a guide can deck only be bought for any of the above? I obviously have the instructions, books, DVDs, its just the cards I have wrecked!

This is my second disater with the Foo Can in a month. Last time there was some unpleasntness with red food clouring, a water to wine effect and a small leak in the can. I think I am going to lay off using this dangerous piece of kit!

Sorry I can't help with thje decks, but here is an idea for your foo can. Try covering the top of the foo can with cling film and an elastic band. It's quite easy to pull off when you take the can out of your bag/box. Always worked for me.

all of the effects can be brought deck only.

Try any retailer for I.D, Cards 4 magic i beleive can do the in a flash deck. You will have to buy a new deck of D'bs not to pricey. And magic box have just released a refill 1 deck pack for Beyond esp2 although i dont believe it contains the "extra" cards.

I did the snowstorm in china effect (resulting in wet hands), chameleon silks and a dissapearing candle in an elegant white silk scarf all as part of a christmas show. When i unpacked my kit the wet chameleon silks had bled onto my beutiful white scarf and the small yellow silk!
