RRTCM : DVD's or BOOK ?

Postby J0kerz » Jul 20th, '06, 22:12

Hi,

I am a begginer to magic and I am able to perform some tricks. After this post , I will introduce myself in the designated forum. Anyway, I read alot on this forum during the last 2 days and I come to a conclusion that I need to buy RRTCM ( Royal Road to Card Magic ). I know there's 2 differents version of this : The Dvd's and the book. I'm asking you wich one is the best. I know you will say : Buy both but I wanna buy only one of them ( for the moment). I want to learn well and I wanna see progress. I'm a beginner so I want visual and thing like that.

:?: I am asking you :

Wich RRTCM version would you buy if you could only buy one of these two?

Thx in advance!

Please take this comment as a friendly piece of advice and do not think i am having a go. You say you want to learn fast, that is the first mistake! You really need to take your time learning each sections of the Book or DVDs. If you rush you may find out that you forget material quickly, you do not perform the material correctly and you may not be ready for the next section.

Material of this nature should be slowly studied, this will give you time to learn the new skills and give you confidence. I wish you well with learning the material. Many people want instant results, this is also a mistake. As a beginner you should be slowly building both skills and confidence. I started with this book many years ago and spent a long time learning the material. I know it is tempting to want to perform great magic as soon as possible, i was the same when i started. However, i soon found out that great magic comes from hard work and study.

I would also suggest that when you practise you try to practise in front of a mirror to see what the audience would see. Take your time and enjoy the magic, it really is not a race you know! The very best of luck with it and remember the golden rule "ENJOY IT" :D and if you get the DVDs remember to get the proper version, the 5 disc L&l publishing one.

The book is several years old whereas the DVD having only being released should be smack bang up to date. However, this comes at a price as it's several times more money and can only be used in fromt of a TV or computer.

The book can be taken anywhere.

It boils down to how much money you have to spend, and whether your learning style suits books or DVD's.

Agree with dat! I really would try to get both, you can study the book anywhere but the DVD has lots of up to date material. The book is so cheap anyway, you should find it for £6.00

I was thinking of buying the 4 dvds one ( green colored) cause I had not seen those 5 dvd's. They got the same name so I was confused. What's the big difference between those two?

Noooooooooooooooo! the 4 DVD is the AWFUL magic Makers (legal note: this is my view and not the view of Talk Magic!) version. Avoid it! The quality of recording is poor, the teaching is very bad and not up to standard. Magic Makers are infamous

I think its down to personal choice. But which ever you choose remember to take it slow and master each bit as you go. Don't be afraid to stop and go back and re visit bits. I went for book then got DVDs recently.

Magic is real, just look around you, some of the most amazing things have no reason, no explanation but are very real.
