Custom Cards

Postby Hodgkinson » Jun 13th, '05, 22:31

Just stumbled across a site which I thought I should share with you.

http://www.customizedplayingcards.com/

I think they would be great for the working pro.
After doing a (signed) card routine you can leave the spectator with a great souvenir/advert in one. :D

Yes, unfortunately they are not Bikes so one would have to give up Bikes entirely just for the one custom effect.

It is possible to buy custom Bikes but much harder. Might I recommend Versatile Monte? I don't have it but it looks like it would achieve the same thing but much cheaper and easier.

hmmm....that seems like an expensive cd for what it does though. Beacuase if you think about it the process is fairly straight-foraward with a good paint or photo editor like adobe photoshop. The only thing from there is getting good card stock to print on. That being said too, the bikes are coated with a special finish, which we see as the air-cushion type. It seems that, obtaining that finish with custom printed cards would be rather hard to do.

Well, all you have to do is buy a deck of blank-facers and print onto them. I think that the point of the DVD is that it will teach you what to do - how to check the printer, how to align the cards, it may come with some standard images...stuff like that.

N.B. You can get custom Bikes here but they're not cheap .

www.cards4magic.co.uk offer a custom card printing kit showing the use of Bike stock but I understand you need access to a laser copier to use it. The kit was about £20 if I remember right.

There is also a minimum order quantity of 10,000 decks! Strictly for businesses then.

Here's a method of printing your own custom Bicycle cards from blank stock (the"Print Method for plastic coated cards" thread):

You CAN print on blank faced/back/double blank bike stock - but for optimal results, a particular method is required.

I have my own method, but as I've been informed that it is almost identical to the Versatile Monte method - I refrain from giving the info out on public forums.

As the method is close to mine - I would highly recommend the dvd. I believe it's about $25 - which, in the long run - saves a TON of money. It's cheaper to buy a deck of blank facers and printing my own gaffs, rather than purchasing a particular packet effect.

Do you need a special printer/printer color for doing this?
And the most important question, what is the quality of the cards after the printing? Can do flourishes with them without fanning powder? Can you do D/L without it looking too thick?
