One-hand push off

Postby cordenadam » Jul 21st, '06, 20:54

Have recently got Expert card techniques, and am trying to optain a DL via a one hand push off, which is where u apply presssure onto the right bottom and top left pack of cards and two cards will slide off, if you dont now it dont worry, but for those who have the book or know the technique, would they kindly give my some help with my following question which is:

When applying pressure do the 2 cards spring off your finger tips or buckle.

Thanks in advance

Adam

I had similar experiences when I learned the push off and like most things in magic, keep at it and it will come with time and patience.

It's a 'feel' thing

I push off so that the cards run over the edge of my index and middle finger without buckling and I can feel the 1st, 2nd and if needed, the 3rd card. I get a break under the one that I want and push back.

I'm assuming that this is what you're after?

The two cards do not come off flush however when you strat to pull the two cards back whilst turning them over they square up naturally.

Also when you do push the cards off you will sometimes/ (qutie often when you start learning this sleight) you will get more than two card coming away however this isn't a problem and will correct its self after a lot of practice.

Hope this helps

I have to say Mahoney, giving up at the first sign of difficulty is not the way you're going to improve your magic skills! But maybe the tips given on this thread may help you to learn where you were going wrong and help you improve this wonderful move!

I learnt off the Crash Course 1 DVD (i think....) and it greatly improved my DL. I initially found that i pushed off more than 2 cards, but, after practice, i got used to the feel and could push 2 cards off with ease. Hate to be the borken record, but that is all it needs.

I was born with Multiple Personality Disorder. Luckily, they are all me, they just dont always get along...
