Ok guys, I've just mad myself a stripper deck coz I'm too cheap to go out and buy one (well actually it's because all my tricks have always been done using a WHSmiths deck of cards and it'd look suspect if I pulled out a spanky new deck).

Now to me the stripper deck looks very obvious, I've done it neatly and cleanly. A shop bought deck also look obvious to me, but will the average joe one the street realise, what are your experiences with them?

1. Never draw attention to the deck.

2. Never hand it out for inspection with the gimmick "activated".

3. Learn to be subtle in your handling of the deck.

4. don't use the gimmick directly to bring about a revelation.

5. Learn some sleights designed to take advantage of the underying principle.

Hummm nothing else I can think to add but I really like the stripper deck and have found some really nice effects with it.

I havent used a stripped deck in ages. But when I was starting out in magic I used it a few times and never got caught. But I think it depends on your handling alot. Dont squeeze the deck real tight to bring attention toward the deck. Just hold ir normally like you would in a mechanic's grip to cover it a little bit. But overall I wouldnt worry, people arent looking close enough to see its a stripper deck even if they know what one is.

...and if you think that they might be then find out one of those decks with a different working to the norm...

Shuffle it, and that will make them not think about it. And like they said try not to draw attention to it.

I use this deck for poker nights every once in a while to mess with the guys.

iv'e used a stripper deck for a very very long time and even had specs show me tricks with my deck and only one fellow mage realised what i was using.

the big secret is to use it as a regular everyday deck for your card tricks and no suspision will fall onto the deck.

Yup. If you treat it differently, so will others, so don't and they won't either. That includes your handlng from the moment you take it from its case.

The bridge Bike version of a stripper deck is way way way better then the poker sized version for some reason.

Thanks for the advice guys, I tried the deck last night on 5 different people. Just did a simple, spectator picks a card, puts it back in and shuffles the deck. I then cut straight to their card. Very simple trick, I know but showed each person it 5 or 6 times and no one sussed it. I think handing the deck to them to shuffle instantly dispelled any suspision about the deck.

Only one person looked like they might be getting suspisious and was watching my cut very closely so I added a slight variation where I palmed their card after the cut, turned over the top card. "Is that your card? No? Oh what about now?" Totally threw them off the scent.

Phew! This is why I never use the gimmick directly in a revelation.

I was just playing last night, I'm going to add in a few sleights and twists to make it more interesting. I need to make sure the selected card ends up in the middle of the pack, sometimes when it was near the top or bottem the cuts looks pretty silly.

i rediscover stripper recently ( after 2 years of magic) for some tricks that i perform blindfolded or under my back. I perform before sone normal tricks not using the stripper ability of the deck ( 2 card monte, daley acr eccc..) and then i close whith an superfast and impossible finding of 3 cards blindfolded and under my back. I use the FOURNIER stripper deck which is made directly from the factory and his quality is absolutely better than normal stripper bycicle.

Now doing them blindfolded is a great idea, I might have to try that. Would look very impressive.

Had a stripped deck for a while, but never really used it much. Think it does have a great potential, but the tricks ive thought of or read about never really appealed to me.

I don't think this is going against the rules, but if anyone is willing to share with me a routine they use with the deck id be most grateful.
