I have a book published in 1976 entilted Magic with Everyday Objects written by George Schindler. I am a begginer and am seeking advice on the validity of tricks in this book. Is anyone familiar with this book or George Schindler. I believe George Schindler is probably a credible magician being that he was named dean of the American Society of Magicians. Let me know what you think.

I really don't under stand this post or the initial one you posted. What do you mean by validity and credible?

I guess what I am really trying to say is this book or this person worth studying? Is his teachings worth studying. Maybe validity and credibility are too strong of words. In other words, is this guy well know or is he just someone trying to make a buck? I don't want to waste my time reading something that is not helpful. I am picking up several books on the recommend for beginners list today. So I will know I am going down the right road on that. I just had this book on my self from my father and was wondering what was know about it really.
Thanks.

Well, there's no right road. Read everythng you possibly can. Inwardly digest and understand the methods used and how to apply them. Get an education!

Thanks for the advice!!! Being new to this I guess I was worried if certain things can misguide you in your studying. Your post is very helpful. Obviously I thought that most things are subjective and its how you tailor it to what your goals are that's important, but I just couldn't help but to ask make sure. Thanks Mate!

Magic books etc are no different to sources in other areas - there's good and there's bad and each reader will have their own opinion on that score! As you already have the book I'd count it as a fortunate resource which you can use or ignore to suit your own feelings. Look carefully at the routines and see if anything appeals to you in terms of how you would perform it your way. You can then adapt it even more as you go along. I've recently bought books where the same routine is in more than one of them but in each one the descriptions differ. The best one was the cheapest book which was aimed at children but had several excellent tricks and routines and, more importantly, it assumed no prior knowledge so explained things very carefully and very clearly - just how I need it!
Books and DVDs etc are like a regular deck of cards - totally useless unless you work with them and do things with them - the magic is quite literally in your hands. Best of luck!

Thanks for the advice! I learned a few of the tricks in the book and tried them out last night on our senior adult church members on a trip. They loved it. It was really really basic stuff (knife floating, and salt shaker levitation, lol) All in all its gonna be a fun book to work through. I did order The royal road to magic cards and i can't wait to get it.

I have the book and it was one of the first magic books that I got. Amazon was the first place I knew sold magic books and that was an amazing discovery (well before I'd joined a Magic Circle or found these online forums).
The book has lots of simple "tricks" but there are some gems. Actually most "tricks" can be made amazing if you use them in the right situation and present them in the right way.
The tricks in the book can make you come across as a funny uncle or someone who can do amazing things at just about any time. It's up to you to decide
I'd say get it.

PS I also bought Now You See It by Bill Tarr from Amazon and it was that, which steered me into coin magic
