Postby r34l1ty » Jul 29th, '06, 08:03

Hello, I went onto criss angels website and tried his "interactive" trick. How can I learn this? Does anyone know what it is called??? I want to buy this trick!!!

http://crissangel.com/data/generic_site/crissangel/static/video.html#

Obviosly it only works that one time but still, I need to know!!!

David Blaine did the same thing on his TV special. I do say though, that he didn't do it as well as Criss. His method came of slightly more revealing.

I do not know of a specific source for how to achieve this effect. Infact, I am a little unsure of how much I can say about it. I know Derren Brown discusses it in his book Pure Effect, but he only talks about it as a side note when talking about another trick. It isn't uncommon though, so I would assume it would be in 202 methods of forcing by Annemann. And I know I have seen it on websites like Card Trick Central.

But maybe someone can give you a better answer.

Derren Brown talks about this? i thought i'd read Pure Effect, can't remember him talking about this.
i guess i can't actually give away how it's done can i? but watch any of those "secrets of magic: revealed!" type shows it may well be in there.

gah, i want to say things about this now, but i think i'll end up giving it away if i do! i'll leave it at "i guess it works for people who don't know how it's done, but for whose that do, he could have made it look a bit cleaner"

This is a classic technique that is...

1) a stand alone effect
2) has been written about many times
3) has appeared as a feature in a number of marketed effects

A bit of basic research into mentalism effects designed to "suggest" a certain card to a spectator will eventually flush out the principle...just get stuck in.

Where can you learn when he makes one card jump out of the deck and catches it?

i think Ricky Jay's - Cards As Weapons might be the definitive work on the subject but surely there's a section on thumb scaling in Royal Road or something isn't there?

Long Distance Spinner. HERE

Its takes a bit of practise but its quite easy to do. The one criss does is a short version of it, I got one as high as my house :D I couldnt catch it on the way down though because the wind blew the card :(

Of course this trick only works the first time becuase it is a video, to me it just looks like he flips through the deck (edited by moderator)*************************and then*************************???

Correct...that IS exposure.

Sorry, I just remembered it was Kenton Knepper I was thinking of! (Im sure youll see the mix up!) Kenton was describing a technique DB used in Pure Effect and is similar and so my brain made a bad connection. Pardon et moi. (Though I still feel like DB says something similar.)

Kenton did talk about how to achieve this effect, and I believe it is the SAME EXACT thing done here. I dont know how much I can say so I can't say why. So I believe Criss read a Kenton manuscript. (Although I am SURE it is very common outside of Kenton, it is just alot of little similarities. And it is the little things no one thinks of that Kenton is infamous for covering. With me atleast.)

Anyway if that is the case, this version isn't 100% impromptu and I think far more effective than the version David Blaine did.

I cant remember the name of the manuscipt. If you saw my bookshelf... heh. My kenton section is too much effort to go wading through right now.

Anyway good luck.

Ha, well I figured it out, my friend Adams dad is a stage magician and I was going through his videos and found a tape "Secrets of Street Magicians Finally Revealed" it was a FOX TV special, and it describes the trick quite well.

It requires a little bit of ***** modification, so people would pick *********.

PLEASE find less direct ways of discussing tricks that don't end up exposing the principles of ANY effect. PM's are a good way to discuss discreet matters with other TM members.

Careful, that is quite close to exposing the method. (if fact, it does!) That is not allowed around these parts... if you notice in the above posts.
