flash paper - non flash duplicates

Postby magicmonkey » Jul 29th, '06, 09:16

Hi all

I need to get some tissue paper sheets to match 2 1/4 “ X 3 3/4” flash paper as closely as possible. I need this paper for people to write on and obviously cannot be flash paper. I know you can write on flash paper, but this piece will not be lit so needs to look as muuch like flash paper as I can find. Maybe someone here has already solved this for themselves

Does anyone know of a place in the uk where I can get this?

cheers to anyone who can help

Any craft shop will sell white tissue paper than all you have to do is cut it to size and you could even make it in to a little book and rip out a sheet when you use it (like in a flash pad)

Magic is real, just look around you, some of the most amazing things have no reason, no explanation but are very real.

The Works sells it too. I've actually got some from there which is slightly whiter, but pretty similar in texture and weight.

if you are using this for Jay Sankey effect "Signed, Singed, Delivered" or a similar effect in which you use fairly small pieces of flash, i have taken a packet of rizla tobacco papers and opened it up to alternate one paper to one flash substitute, they don't look identical but its never been questioned.

Rizla's are a great way of using flash paper and also changing it for same sized pieces of paper (obviously cut your flash paper to size).

I've used this for a couple of years now and have also never been questionned.

It's not really an optical illusion - it just looks like one!

Just to add......I find that the blue "light weight" rizla are the best flash substitute as they have that opaque thing goin on! also use king size for a bigger flash

In a mildly related way there's a nice effect using exactly this transpostion (rizla/flash paper) on John Bannon's Impossibilia DVD, I think the effect is called "Shriek of the Mutilated" it's premise is voodoo but it's a torn and restored effect with paper...

It might be worth checking out if you thought it would fit your style.
