Can anyone offer any tips on tabling a DL? there are a few effects I'm working on that use this and it is the only thing which lets them down! I've tried a subtle crimp but even then it dosn't look as if I'm doing what I'm supposed to be doing...(trying not too give to much away!) this really is frustrating me, I've tried new cards, worn cards and still getting nowhere, incidently I'd prefer to be using new cards! Cheers!!

Do the effects rely on the double being on the table face up? Because otherwise it's simply a case of flipping it over on top of the deck and putting the top card on the table face down. I do this in several effects and it's very convincing if done smoothly. Otherwise I can't really help sorry.

to be honest mate it takes a lot of practice although it is simple and seems simple the speed will come from practise and patients.

i suggest u learn the 2 card monte as tht requires summet similer and the misderection for this trick comes almost naturally with the patter

once u have this effect down and timing correct you'll be able to use DLs in different ways using different misdirection.

i learnt my 2CM from Ellusionists Kard Klub but there is a variety of sources out there just watch them and ull be flooded with new ideas

there are a couple of ways to table a double.. the easiest is to hold the double with the thumb and middle finger with the first finger in the middle of the card...place the double on the table but make sure to keep your first finger fingernail on the card until your other fingers have released the card... another way is described in "The Classic Magic of Larry Jennings".. if you have acess to the book look for "bounce double"

Cheers! unfortunatly I can't D/L onto the deck and then table one card. The effect in part involves a trasposition of two cards in your hand for one on the table. (no need for the cards to be signed.) guess its just putting the hours in!!! Have also tried holding the card as mentioned above and using the middle finger to hold the "card" till the last minute but i find this leaves them with a slight upward crimp which can make things tricky...............man I'm never happy lol. thanks for the replys!

Just a thought, do you HAVE to table the double, could you do a KM Move?, I have two 3 and a half of clubs in my deck, they have R/S down white border on the side. When I hold them at the corner they will take a beating before they separate. Put both in hand - well I toss them,a real convincer its one card, they cover and I continue. When I push the middle of the backs they spread and they can be examined, but noones ever looked at the edges only the middle of the backs and try and stick them together etc. Its the only way I could get two cards in convincingly, but the downside is that I have a stuck together double card, I happen to like using a thick card to spice things up so its a bonus to me.

If the tabled cards are going to be the focus of attention then its a tough one, but If you could get away with placing the card down whilst beginning to draw attention to the cards to be transposed then you could giv yourself a split second to drop the hand and place the double sqaure on the table. They will think they magic has move on to something else, and eager to find out your secrets they will watch the harmless single card you are fiddling with far away from a hand dropping a card down.....

Mog's advice is the perfect answer, so continue to practice that method. To reduce the chance of an upwards bend (which you won't leave once you get the touch down), you could opt to place the double down on the card case. This allows your fingers to hold the double entirely until it is resting on the case - and your fingers will contact the table, letting you release the double easily without the cards slipping.

Work on that, and then move up to just using the table as mog said. In a short amount of time, you'll find it very easy to pull off.
