Working with US 50 state quarters

Postby LesPaul » Aug 7th, '06, 22:35

I'm curious of how much coin magic routines have been affected by the spread of the new US 50 state quarters. I haven't yet ran into problems but I don't do magic on a daily basis as some do. Opinions and tips?

Actually, I've been trying to develop a coin routine that specifically uses the state quarters. If you have any ideas on the subject, I'd love to kick them around with you.

As for difficulty - I don't do much coin work, so it hasn't affected me a great deal. My favorite utility coin currently is coin unique - and luckily for me, my version has a state quarter instead of the old quarter.

Switches are the only time in my current routine that I could run into trouble. My coin is an old quarter but a lot of times the expectator gives me a 50 state quarter. Luckily the few times this happened they didn't bother to examine their own coin to notice it was different. I guess because it was their own money no examination was needed, but I can't always count on that. With time, the odds of getting a matching quarter will be 51 to 1, not so good!

Could you just ask the spec to bring out a handful of coins, you select (or just casually indicate) an appropriate quarter and let someone else to check and verify before they give back to you? That way you could filter out the 'wrong' kind of coin.
