Well, it looked a good idea for childrens shows, so I bought "Uncanny Hanks". The idea is that you have 3 silks tied on a ribbon, as the children call out the colours, the silks untie themsleves and fall off.
I opened the pack earlier and was hugely let down by how tacky and cheaply made it looked. I thought there was no way I could put it in a show. The "ribbon" was short and was a piece of tape and it isn't the "display" piece I had hoped.
But I said I was happy. So I am. I believe it was David Ginn who did a lecture, where he had 4 coloured silks. He used them as a game, getting children to lift them up as he called out a colour. But he added a twist, by giving the colours different names. Blue was red, green was yellow etc.
This had them lifting all sorts of colours up, causing fun all round.
Now, before I knew better, I tried this. I thought you didn't need to script it, as you could decide on the colours as you go. Needless to say, I dragged it on for too long, trying to think what colours to say next.
So now I am going to script it, having combinations of colours and making it fast moving. I will have 4, not 3, coloured silks on a (better) ribbon, to display the same colours they have.
I was going to end the routine by having the four silks drop off in quick succesion(sp?), but as I am writing, I figured it would be good to use as a running gag during the game, falling off one at a time.
