Bridge Cards, and Poker Size Cards

Postby AceOfClubs » Aug 9th, '06, 13:41

I have a question, I know there was a post on this before but I can't find it. I did use the search button I still couldn’t find it. Are bridge sized cards smaller then bicycle regular blue playing cards or are they bigger. See I'm only twelve so if I had maybe a smaller deck it would make it easier for me to palm cards.

P.S I have not been on much I've been coding my own html site. Click here to view my site I will be on more now since it’s done. I was trying to get a template for it but I haven't learned how to do that if anyone one knows how put templates in html please tell me.

Bridge cards are about 20% smaller than poker cards. I started on them and graduated to Bikes, though USPCC do bikes in bridge size. I think the Card Collection have some.

EDIT: Mind you, Smiths do a double pack of bridge cards for a couple of quid, so you cna try them out cheaply.

I dont know if this is right or not but I was told by a guy in a magic shop about a year ago that bicycle were stopping production of Bridge sized decks. It was for this reason that I've moved over to poker size.
It does mean that due to my small monkey sized hands that it is a lot harder to palm a card (I find it a near impossiblity as my hand very barely covers the card).
There are benefits to struggling with poker size with many gimmick decks available, along with gimmicked single card double backs etc which opens up so many more options the card magician.

Strange as it may seem, I actually find it easier to palm a poker card than a bridge card. The bridge cards are alot more fiddley. also got a colour change routine which is much easier with the bigger poker cards. My pass isn't as good with poker cards though, but then again it's rubbish no matter what cards I use.

I am that way as well. Although I have been doing card magic for about 8 years now, my hands are very small and I find it difficult to palm cards. However I have practiced enough where if I do it perfect its not seen. But I still use bridge cards from time to time nothing wrong with that at all.

In my opinion I dont think it matters what size the card is for palming...bridge or poker or even larger...

for me if you are trying to convince someone your hand is empty by showing them it front and back, time after time, saying ' look at my empty hand', while trying to conceal or palm something like a card, you are gonna get caught eventually...regardless of its size...

Obviously you have to use misdirection and the offbeat...using these properly, you could palm a horse off the top of the deck and not get caught....

whether you use poker or bridge cards is just a personal preference and choice in the matter should be a case of 'I choose this size or brand because they help my magic flow and they are easier to handle'... Rather than ' I only use bridge cards (or poker) cos they are smaller (or larger) and should be easier to palm'

just my two pennies worth is all...
