Criss Angel: Mindfreak. Season 2 Episode 13

As some of you have noticed, I've often mentioned Criss' uses of stooges and how it weakens the effect and blah blah blah. Now for something completely different from me! (and him!)

I would HIGHLY recommend you all view this in whichever way you can.. wait for it on TV, borrow it from a friend, download it, use your time machine to go into the future and buy it on dvd.. whatever.

In my opinion, this was probably one of the best episodes. Which is quite funny.. because he didnt really do any magic! It was all about scams and cons and how to avoid them. He did do a lot of pickpocketing but obviously he gave the stuff back to the people  If you enjoyed his pickpocketing and sleight of hand with the police in season 1, you will LOVE this. Its actually scary how well he does it :D

The ep starts off with a nice little pickpocketing clip (obviously setup, purely for entertainment purposes). He pickpockets someone and the wallet then gets passed around about 20 different people and eventually back to Criss who then puts it back in the "Victims" pocket. I thought it was quite funny and well made :D

It then shows clips of him pickpocketing various members of the public. Some of them he is talking to, some of them he is just passing by and asks a quick question and steals their wallet in the process.

He also gets someones sunglasses and a guys watch who wanted a photo with him :D

Johnny Thompson then shows the 3 Shell Game and exposes it afterwards

Next, Criss scams all the viewers out of $1 and tells everyone to make sure they send it to him. I would send it to him but I think he has enough ;)

The next segment is about "Psychic Surgery" which I've never heard of before, however it was VERY interesting to watch. Criss shows how real it can look and it does look VERY real. He explains what items he uses and reminds everyone that it is an illusion and its not real.

Next up we have Penn and Teller who do a wonderful little cups and balls routine. They then repeat the trick but with clear cups and they explain how its done. They do it quite fast so its not a "learning" tool, just exposure (will they get banned from the forums for this?!?! )

And for the finale? Criss pulls off his own "scam" (his words, not mine!) and melts through the side of an armored truck full of money. This is definately a step-up from a lot of the tricks and illusions he's done so far in this season and I was quite impressed with it.

Overall, one of the best episodes of the season. The only other episodes I REALLY enjoyed were the "Walking on Water" episode (ep 4) and the "Sleight of Hand" episode (ep 7)

Thanks for the tip off, can't wait to see this one!

BTW: Psychic Surgery (yeah, right!) was featured in the Jonathan Creek Christmas 1998 episode - Black Canary - the one with the limping man, Rik Mayall, lots of snow, and two Hannah Gordons for the price of one!

P&T's transparent C&B routine was shown in their Magic and Mystery series where they did this in an Egyptian tomb after deciding that the famous wall painting showing C&B was nothing of the sort - double exposure! That series is still being repeated on Sky by various channels so you might get to see it sooner!

I was impressed by the melting through the truck although I don't know how he can call this a scam

Hard for me to believe there wasn't at least one guy that felt what he is doing and caught him and then got cut from the episode ;)
Even harder for me to believe there was only one guy ;)

But nice of him to finally do something that really involved slight of hand skill and not stooges and big expansive illusions.

If you want to see some really great pick-pocketer /magician I'd say go for Remington Scott, now that guy did pick-pocketing on a live stage show, no stooges just him and the crowd, I have never seen anyone steal a watch as fast as him, not to mention the brass balls and skill it takes for doing pick-pocketing on a live stage show.
