Card to Ice

Postby maRk tHE mAGicK » Jul 29th, '06, 05:12

Greetings magical people :)

Hope all is well, its few and far between when I come on here.

I was looking through the magic circle website, and got looking at David Redfearns website. He did astounding celAbrities (say it like Avid), and a particular trick was playing card to ice with Carol SmileyWhatsHerFace :x . The corner was torn off, and the rest of the card was inside the ice.

Now I'm knowledgable enough to do the card vanish, and reappear, and the corner matching, but is there somewhere you can buy the ice casts, and has the trick actually been published? Or were they lying, and was it perspex?

Hope someone can help
P.S I'll have my website up and running soon!!!! Nearly full time Magi :)

Was the ice in any particular shape? You could just buy any small plastic container and fill it with water. Go order something from a chinese restaurant and use one of those plastic tubs they send the food in :D

I haven't seen the trick but after reading what you have said, it could easily be done with a little bit of thought! Any ice tray would do, as the corner of a card would fit in nicely. My only concern is how would you keep the ice cold enough as not to let it melt during your routine?

However it does sound like a nice littel twist on an old trick, you could do the reveal by giving the specy a drink with the icecube in the glass!

I made my wife dissapear just by arguing with her!!!

reminds me of a trick I read called card under a plate, I think. But rather then switching the corner you give as a recipt for a planted torn card, the torn card is switched for a planted corner in preset in ice.

It was this which I first saw years ago & recognised the Intercessor gimmick from websites. The idea being the small torn off piece was signed, the rest of the card was burnt & the card box tipped out to reveal a piece of ice the same size as a deck with the larger torn piece trapped inside. Great effect but if the ice is real (which it looked like it was from the reaction) pretty hard to duplicate during normal working conditions.

Although if you're going to have the pieces trapped in ice you might as well have it in a sealed envelope inside yet another sealed envelope which was posted before the reveal.

Here is TM's very own Mark Waddington performing what I believe to be the effect you are after http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=XWaHo5pFfeU&feature=channel_page

If this is the effect you mean then Stephen is right, it is intercessor you need.
Maybe Mark could suggest a way to best produce a nice ice block

dont know if this will help guys but at camping shops you can get a food thermos-flask for keeping well food hot or cold, many moons ago i used this very device to freaze a card, (card goes in tuparware pot filled half way up with water card saported by pegs, freaze, top up and refreaze).
it shocking when you tip out a block of ice and card vsans corner that matches and they have fun breaking the ice with a diddy ice pick.

ps this trick works equaly well with coin tricks like scotch and soda or okito box routines.

I'm sure our own Mark Waddington had a version of this...?

My apologies H, I was too slow off the mark.

By the way, the eBook is great, although it hasn't solved my problem! Definately a keeper though! Cheers

There is also a trick by Michael Ammar "Fist of Frost" where the card ends up inside an icecube, which also (if you sacrifice all the preparation time) is formed in the shape of your hand.

I read about it in a german book, but I just checked in the internet that this trick is on his DVD series "Easy to master card miracles Vol. 9". I haven`t seen this, so I don`t know if it`s actually the same version.

I haven`t performed this actually, but when I read it, it sounded pretty cool.
