A lovely bit of luck

Last night I was at a party and as usual I was magicing it up good. I did my ACR a couple of times, and on the second occassion the girl I performed to grabbed the deck after I'd finished, put her card into the middle then shuffled it and handed it back to me saying 'now make it come to the top'. If I was sensible I would have just brushed it off and done something else but being an inebriated idiot I said ok, took the deck, clicked my fingers over it and (for no apparent reason as I had no idea where her card was) did a DL. It was her card. Everyone watching sh*t themselves and I basked in the glory for a while, particularly happy that my 1 in 52 shot had come off.

Has anyone else had any similar experiences where the stars have aligned perfectly and given you a fantastic lucky boost?

oh yes! you gotta love these moments. i, too in a drunken magical state, once simply said "name a card, any card" to someone, with the intention of simply running through the deck to get it, and they managed to name the card that comprised the one way deck i had on me. now, imagine the possibilities!! i went on some rant about how he had free choice in his mind to choose that, and if i spread a deck out he;d have free choice to choose any card, and what would the probability be of them being the same, three times in a row!! (by the way it's 140608 to 1, 7311616 to one if you count the probablity of him naming my one way deck too). anyway, he failed to understand how all this was possible and left in confusement. so i showed someone else, who had been watching, that it was a one way deck, they found this quite hilarious; then i went on to make them wonder how i made him think of that card in the first place.
of course, this kind of thing should happen 1.923% of the time anyway! but i hate statistics!

I think that we all have these times when you're a performer and you did just the right thing in basking in the glory

These moments comprise a good section of magic. Some magicians build a signifigant amount of the close-up/stage show utilizing them. If you learn how to help create these moments now and then, you have real magic on your hands.

I'm not sure that I understand what you're getting at i1011i?

We're talking about spontaneous moments that cannot be learnt, created or planned - they JUST HAPPEN. I don;t know how a magician could build an act by utilising them.

Maybe I'm just not catching the point that you're trying to make :?

I was doing the 'Quick Trick' move taught by Oz Pearlman, and I told my little brother to shout out a card.

He went crazy when it turned out to be his card :D:D

It is hard for me to go much further without feeling like I am "exposing" technique. But I guess the best way to put it is, it is all about taking a risk. The risk is that the moment will occure. And we, as magicians, have the skill and ability to tip the odds. This doesn't mean that the moment will be created, but if it is then we created real magic (as far as all concerned) otherwise, we still have an amazing trick that can lead to the next potential moment of pure magic.

Think of it as when you learned the classic force (if you did). If you pulled it off then you created a miracle. If you didn't than you still have a good trick coming up.
