Hello to all.
I am a fellow magician from the continential United States. I am a working/part time professional working diligently on becoming a full timer. I have been studying magic since about the age of 8 and some now 19 years later I have begun the long road to professional. It all started with a magic kit and......No I'm kidding. Not that way. I actually am the son of a magician. My father is a Parlor/Classical magician. It was only a matter of time before I followd suit although he never pushed me or directed me into magic. My first and favorite effect was Professors Nightmare. To this day, I use this effect in my restaurants as a table opener (a majority of the time).
I didn't start diving into full time until about 3 years ago. I have always done a gig here or a gig there, but never focused on going all out. I have found that I am a few steps behind the up and coming generation. I consider myself to be a thorough presdigitator of cards. This is my preference although I study, practice, and appreciate all the other avenues in magic. I do card magic more for my love of the art than working a table. (Unfortunately, laypeople get bored of cards and you need something else.)
I also have in my repetoire a formal close-up show, escape show, comedy stand-up show (magic), kids/family show, and my own corporate show. I have spent quite some time in studying psychology and psychology of magic, as well as method, performance, creation, etc... I am currently re-re-re-read Darwin Ortiz' "Strong Magic" because you always pick something different up the next time around....
Well I'm running on now and I am looking forward to some in depth discussions. Hopefully my ideas are accepted as that, mine and not me trying to tell others what they should do. So, until next time............Cheers, JPV (Justin)
