I've just been dowsing some coins in coke the past few days, though that was to try and clean some marker pen off. It certainly seems to work!

I must be doing something wrong, I tried coke, just made them sticky, I tried ketchup, just made them sticky, I tried Cillit Bang, and it did not work at all (did I have a duff bottle?) I finally resorted to Brasso, Gleaming away now!

Put tin foil at the bottom of a glass pyrex cooking boil or pot. Fill with water. bring to a boil. Add a couple spoons of baking soda. Add the coins. When they make contact with the tin foil all the tarnish will come off almost instantly.

I learned it on Mister Wizard and tried it on my mom's silverware. It even removed the tarnish (or antiqueing) in the grooves of the handle design. So her antiques now look brand shiny new.... She wasnt very happy.
