Skinners Ultimate three card Monte....

Postby BeerForDolphins » Nov 24th, '03, 12:04

The Effect

Three cards, the Ace of hearts, the two and three of clubs are removed from a deck. They are fanned and shown to the audience. The cards are then placed on the table in full view, mixed up and then shown again before they are slowly and deliberately placed face down on the table.

The ace is placed down first. The remaining two cards are shown to the spectator and then the three is placed down followed by the two. The ace then unbelievably swaps places with the three. The trick is then repeated, but to make it easier for the audience the three is clearly place down on the table. The ace and the two are displayed face up to the spectator however, when the cards are again placed face down, the spectator still cannot find the ace as it swaps places with the three that was previously placed down on the table.

Cost

@ £7.99....thats what it cost me anyway, available from all good magic stockists.

Difficulty
(1=easy to do, 2=No sleights, but not so easy, 3=Some sleights used,
4=Advanced sleights used, 5=Suitable for experienced magicians only)

A definate 1....if a 0.5 was available then I would give it that!!!!!

Review

This is one of the most visually strong yet simplest tricks I have ever seen. The first time you see you are absolutely astounded...it does look like real magic. I cannot imagine a situation where this would not totally baffle your audience...I am not going to tip the gaffe though. if you want to watch it Oz can be seen demonstrating on Penguin.

Overall

Well worth the money...you may be a little dissapointed when you receive the trick just because it it so simple but that is the beauty of it really. You will use it, if you don't already.... I guarantee it!

In my opinion it is as good as anything out there for sheer bamboozlement!

Nice review BeerForDolphins!
I agree. This is a nice, easy-to-perform effect for not too much money. This was one of the first gaffed sets I bought and it inspired me to buy the Daryl Monte DVD, which I can't recommend highly enough. It's well worth it if you fancy having a go at an ungaffed monte - and you should because it's very rewarding (in the warm glow sense, not the scamming people for cash sense). The DVD also has a routine for the Frank Skinner cards which - IMO at least - is much better than the one that comes with the set and well worth learning.

What you call heroism is just an expression of this fact; there is never a scarcity of idiots
