Criss Angel - 1 to 52

Postby smartguy42 » Aug 22nd, '06, 01:51

I was watching a Mindfreak episode recently, and I saw Criss do this effect:

He did a card trick using two guys on the street. He asked one of them to think of a card and name it out loud. (8 of spades was the thought-of card). Criss then asked the other man to pick any number from 1 to 52. (27 was the chosen number.) Criss then reached into his pocket and got out a deck of cards. He told the men he was going to deal the cards one by one onto the ground, and asked if he should deal them face down or face up. They chose face up. So, one by one, and counting out loud, Criss dealt the cards face up onto the ground. When he got to card 27 (from the top of the deck), he put it on the ground face down and had one of the men turn it over. It was the 8 of spades. No shuffling, no moving cards around, nothing.

While I'm not entirely convinced that the whole thing wasn't a setup, I think this is a pretty impressive effect and was wondering if anyone knows the name of this trick. I've been looking all over the place for it, with no luck.

This is an old plot - the Any Card at Any Numer (ACAAN). There are loads of variants out there, I think that David Forrest has one out called Route 66 which plays exactly like this though I think I read somewhere it was more for formal situations. Barrie Richardson has got one too, as has Kenton Knepper...I only know a few though but I am sure someone will come along and be of more help.

That looks like a nice trick, thanks for the link J0kerz, I may be forced to buy that, if only to see how it works.

Check out Andy Nyman's Dead of Night if you like this sort of thing. It's a nice 3 phase routine that plays pretty strong.

The artist who does not rise, descends.

I think this trick can also be found in The Daniel Garcia Project Volume 3

C.A.A.N. -- Any card freely named is found at any number 1-52. Totally clean. All in the hands. Mucho easy.
