Multiple Selection Card Trick

Postby katrielalex » Aug 21st, '06, 21:07

Hello -

I was having a think about the different types of card trick that I know and I noticed that I am missing a multiple selection trick - i.e. one using 5 or so selected cards. The following conditions are slightly harsh but if anyone has a trick that fulfills them that would be amazing!

  • No mentalism please :) I don't do mentalism.
  • Setup: simple if necessary
  • Ideally the number of selections can vary -- 5-10 would be great!
  • In the hands if possible, I don't usually have a table to work with.
  • The longer the merrier ;)

Thanks tons!

i'll pm you tomorrow with a cracker!

I'll P.M. you one too. It has a bit of a set up, but the set up is very simple and can be done in a moment's notice.

fine by me 8) looks like I'll be getting a veritable archive

I've actually remembered an old one that I found in a Martin Gardner book where any number of selections appear paperclipped together in the pack - I'm sure it could be repackaged and sold by ellusionist...

I know one that can use 1 to 10 cards or more (not very recommended though), that is something like the card sword only with a tie and non signed selected cards.

Also I know one with 4 signed cards that that end up in your jacket pockets.

PM me if you are interested in any of them.

Also, basically almost every "4 ace" trick can be turned into a 4 selected cards trick with some deck controlling, and most 4 ace tricks can be done with 5 or 6 cards instead of 4 by varying the methods.

get yourself Devils PictureBook, the 3 card routine in that could be extended to a lot more cards, and would then be quite lengthy

I actually have DP (impulse purchases rule!).

I will have to watch the 3 card routine again. It was very good the last time I watched it, missed all of the sleights (of course) and so on .

I know what you mean about missing all the sleights in the 3 card routine. His misdirection, audience management and technique are first class.

Bill Malone does a fantastic mutiple selection trick with about 8 or 9 cards I think. It's in his "On The Loose" DVD's.

If you want something quick and easy you could grab a stripper deck and do a multicard triumph effect. This is cool because you can really show the cards mixed face/up down. Then you cut the deck and only the selections (however many you used) are now face up. So easy it's almost self-working.

You mentioned a no mentalism thing - but I can't resist putting up Higher Mentality. With a bit of rethinking, it could be reworked as a magic effect, instead of a mind reading kind of thing. Here's the rundown.

5 selections from 5 different people
Setup: NONE. Completely impromptu. Borrow a deck (doesn't even have to be a full deck).
This can be done in the hands, though it's explained as if you have a table.
It's a bit longer than an average card routine.

I did a review on it, somewhere around here.

there's a kenton knepper trick where you get however many people to all pick a card out of a deck, then you do your bit of patter and name all their cards. (don't worry, it's not really mentalism!) i'll see if i can find out where i read it.

'3 Times Lucky' by Jay Sankey (on his 'best of' and i think 'greatest hits' also can be used with any number of cards, although he uses 3. No setup, deck is shuffled by a spectator! One slightly knack-y move (id say about level 3)
