Flash Paper

Postby phillipb115 » Aug 25th, '06, 03:23

Hi,
I just got some packs of Flash Pads from Penguin magic. They are fun to just burn for the first minute or so, but I am ready to do some cool effects. Is there any things you guys like to do? Do you know of any books or DVD's that focus on just tricks to do with flash pads? I also want to know what is a good way to hold the flash paper without getting burn to bad. When I mean to bad, you just feel slight heat but no like burns or anything.
Thanks!

oooh.. spring loaded flash finger!! tons oh fun.

I never use flash paper much. Played with it for a bit long ago, but I'm sure others will chime in with ideas.

I would say, I guess, if you do some sort of "pan" routine.. it would be good for that.

Plenty of other things you can use it for though.
How big of pads do you have? Do any mentalism magic? Can always use a pencil for predicitions and write them (or pretend to) on the flash paper, then light it up.

I believe I have the 3" x 2" sheets. So they are pretty small. So far the only thing I can think of that i have done which has been alright is show then a the piece of paper empty, show themt he lighter, roll the paper up in a ball and then ligh it and have a coin appear where the paper used to be. Pretty sad, but its a start :P

play around with it. It is a start, but other thing will come.

the smaller paper is good, but I'd go for the larger sheets. You can always cut them up into the size you need.

if you like playing with that, check into the string and cotton as well.

a hand sparker would come in hand as an accessory, or a spring loaded finger canon to shoot fire balls from your finger tips is fun.

There's a LOT you can do with flash paper. It's good for misdirection (hell, you could take an ELEPHANT out of your pocket while they're staring at the flash!) as well as in a lot of effects.

For starters why not try out Sankey's In a Flash? Signed coin, signed card, fire!

sometimes, I write an IOU on a bit of flash paper, when they say thats no good, I say oh well, better ged rid of it then. Light it as I throw it up in the air, and catch the real money on its way down...

Yes, you can do lots with flash paper, apart from the effects Kati mentioned you can use it in dove pan producttions, you can buy a hand or finger flaher and produce flash effects from your hand. Many uses are out there!
