I think a magician would have quite a good chance provided he were entertaining enough - because once you've hooked them in, most people are going to want to find out how it all pans out.

Yeh I was thinking of doing the vanishing bandana because it's 3 min and quite funny.

Something is telling me the screenings will only bring to the stage people that will make fools out of themselves to make good entertainment without having to pay the person the 1000 pound..

3 minutes aren't a lot of time at all for that much money, sounds too fishy for me.
But hay I'm not from the UK any way...

nothing fishy at all. apart from the chance of having however many say you suck! although they will undoubtedly screen the performances quite a lot, they'll already know who would last 2 seconds and who would last a minute so they'll put up the right acts to get the right mix.
i thought it'd be hilarious to walk on the stage, stand ther doing nothing until 50% of the audience wanted me off (about 10 seconds i imagine), then simply collect my hundred pounds, thank the production team and be on my merry way, £100 better off! i'd be happy as larry!

This is the British version of 'America's Got Talent' called 'Let Me Entertain You'

I've watched it this week, and I think it's a pretty good format for the show. Nice and cheesy Brian Connolly presenting ordinary people who think they've got something to entertain us with. I thought the woman lecturing on her barbed wire collection was pretty funny.

Just seen tonight's, and the yoyo champion won, as well as the 13-year old kid who sang a famous opera song. Pretty impressive voice.

The one problem with it is it's on too early. Would be better in the 7pm slot I think, give more people a chance to see it!
