Red Hot Mama - opener or closer?

Postby bronz » Aug 24th, '06, 19:19

This may seem like a stupid question, bearing in mind the trick's other name is the Chicago Opener, but I think it could be put to better use as a closer.

The reason I'm saying this is that I usually use it as my first trick and it always goes down very well indeed. So well in fact that throughout the rest of my regular card tricks (all strong, generally include the Biddle trick, Dai Vernon's Triumph and Twisting the Aces, Gemini Twins, Jack Sandwich, my own well practiced ACR, Untouched) people are often clamouring to see it again or show it to people that have just arrived. Maybe I've performed it so often that it's reached some sort of level of perfection but I don't know, I might start closing with it instead. Plus then you'd get the impact of an obviously blue deck suddenly containing a red card.

Any suggestions/comments?

i would say it should stay as an opener, but maybe instead for your closer you could adapt it into something else..

so that when people say "go on, show me that first one again..." you kinda lead them up the garden path a little, maybe changing the ending to something else...maybe a blanked back card with your details on them for a booking, or an e.s.p. symbol previously forced (and deliberately gotten wrong)....

Have a look at "Mark It" by Peter Nardi

It's a great trick, really easy too. I think it would be a great trick to do if someone asked to see Red Hot Mama again. Similar premise, card changing colour etc.
