Question about Bicycle Ghost Deck

Postby gigz » Aug 5th, '06, 03:42

i was just wondering what exactly the bicycle ghost deck does, i mean like a stripper deck has the sides but what does a ghost deck have or what does it do?

The "Ghost" in the name is just the design of the cards. Normal bikes are either Red or Blue backed as you know then you can get different colours. There are some really nasty pink and green ones about! Then there are Ghost and Black Tiger decks which look different again. If you perform somrthing spooky you might want to have a ghostly design or an all black deck to complement the effect.

Remember though, if you currently use gimmicked cards, you will have to re-buy all your gaffs to match the new back design you've adopted...

In short no real difference just the colour!

I also wondered as you see pics of members here holding black cards (like negative versions of normal cards) I wondered what was so great about them?

The black negative looking deck is the Black Tiger deck, as with all the decks it's just a matter of taste. I use them for a version of a poker trick where the spectator keeps getting a 666 in their hand, from a shuffled deck, obviously I've introduced the black cards as being "cursed" beforehand!

It's just a matter of taste - I prefer to use regular cards, if possible I most prefer to borrow a deck from the audiece, I think that some of the more flashy colours have a tendency to look suspicious as soon as you pull then out of the box!

What do the others think?

I'm pretty sure that Ellusionist desinged cards such as Ghost Bikes, Black Tigers, and Tally Ho Vippers are supposed to be a lot smoother, and have alot better feel to them.

You're right there are some that say the Ellusionist cards handle better but to be honest I don't really hold much weight in that argument. There may be a marked difference in the handling between bikes and cards made specifically for manipulation acts but I haven't found a tremendous difference between a new deck of bikes and a new deck of black tigers or ghosts...

that said... I can't tell the difference between Coke and Pepsi either...

I often warn people not to use ghost decks. They almost always gennerate too much susspicion. Because people aren't fimilliar with them, they will think these are trick decks.

I never get anybody that is suspicious, or at least not satisfied that theyre normal cards after theyve held them for a bit.

In England, you cant really buy Bicycle decks anywhere so you would think that they would cause suspicion based on this assumption too. The only people that i would think wouldnt get suspicious are those who have bought them off the internet.

My point is that some of the stuff that we can do may cause a spectator to think that any type of cards are trick decks. They're just flashy decks that people think look strange to begin with and then get used to them after a while. Like my pink and black chequered Vans (shoes)!
