Double Acts

Postby Mikey.666 » Aug 31st, '06, 21:28

hey guys.
me and my friend are making a video. we have alot of tricks which we can do ourselves, but i think we need to make up a bigger handful of double tricks. yano, both working together trick type thing.

anyone have any ideas or tips on how to make tricks like these? (card and coin tricks mainly) but any others is welcome. thx.

Two of my good friends have just done a double act together and they have a fantastic routine in which, fundamentally, a coin vanishes and reappears in an impossible location. However, they make it into this elaborate stage piece where all sorts of things happen and eventually works out at about ten minutes long. It's completely their own idea and is probably the most memorable part of their act.

Try taking a simple idea like that and developing it for two people. And for heaven's sake, don't just limit yourself to cards and coins. If you're trying to do a close up double act, its going to be very difficult. Think more along stage/caberet lines and film it from that perspective.

All the best,

maybe you could do a silk routine with both of you having a tt each a silk telporting, or pushng it into eachother fists and stuff like that, or for a big effect you could do that effect where one of you is standing with a sheet in front of you and you throw it up and your partner appears. Im not sure what its called but ive seen it quite a few times. Good luck

A good effect a couple of friends of mine used to do is, at exactly the same time, get two spectators and do exactly the same trick with exactly the same patter. Pretty much any Force and reveal trick would do. When you come to reveal the 'chosen' card, it is the wrong one. You then say ah...i know and swap places, which makes it the correct card..

it goes down quite well.

here it is
all the card have yellow back with a smilly face on them

1) spectator picks a card

2) return it to the pack

3) you pretend to shoot the deck

4) as you go through the deck the is one card with on the back a dead smilly face.

Double Acts

Postby Allen Tipton » Sep 13th, '06, 13:15

:) Any transposition effect would work. Simplest example. One vanishes a cane, on the other side of the area the other produces it.
Almost Any effect which requires a spectator from the audience would be used.As Spike/sword thru neck. Head/hand/leg Chopper etc.
Comedy Competition; One does the trick right, the other does it wrong. T & R Tissue. Torn Tissue to hat, or panties. The Mismade Flag.; one messes it up. The other puts it right. The Sucker Beaker Vanish or any version Of Jack Hughes The Lady (Jumbo Queen) Vanishes Both show the audience behind the scenes thyen when done the right way round the audience is fooled. Sam Dalal I believe has recently put both out & The Vanishing Elephant( Jumbo card of a Jumbo Elephant) Again one does it the wrong way round 'exposing'it The other does it right. The Bathing Beauty is another example. One show the girl in a frock on the picture, folds it. The other pulls the frock off and so on. There is now a new version of this out with a modern looking beauty, USA Robert B....?
Ask around your Magic Club for anyone who has videoa of Ther Zodiace Brothers( Paul Knieve & Leonard?) or earlier still The Niberco Brothers ( Dutch) Then there's Kohl & Co. (Magical Disasters.)

I would also like to find it but i saw it over a year ago on bbc. i knew it began with a single light bulb and the three people in a line the they pinched the light of the bulb and passed it along the line and then some up beat music started and they were off. hope that was some help in you search. if you find it please tell me as i remember it to be well worth it.
