DownloadMagic.com ?

Postby gunnarkr » Aug 30th, '06, 20:47

Hi guys.
Has anybody here bought and downloaded stuff from DownloadMagic.com ?
I bought Cards Pack-1 from there a few months ago and downloaded a zipfile of 5 tricks.
To make a short story long, I was extremely disapointed.:(
There were 3 pdf files with very simple stuff and then 2 files that are .exe files... and as I have a Mac computer, I still haven't been able to view them. I sent an e-mail back asking for it on a different format, as .exe is Windows-only-file, but they told me sorry this was the only kind of file they offered... (after I paid for it).
Apart from my platform problem, is anybody out there that bought tricks from DownloadMagic.com that is happy with what he got and got his money's worth? 'Cause I'm quite disapointed with the 3 tricks explained on the pdfs.

Gunnar,

Is it possible that the .exe files are self-extracting archives? I also am a Mac user but there is probably some software out there that can extract the files from the elf-extracting archive. A self-extracting archive is the same as a regular .zip file except it has a small executable attached to the beginning that will decompress the rest of the file.

If you need help PM me, I have Parallels on my system and am running XP Pro in it so I have access to a "windows" machine and could possibly decompress the files for you and send you the results.

Regards,

Kolisar

gunnarkr why did you buy from this website? There are plenty of sure and well know magic website, why did you pick this one? It look like a homemade site and like someone said, sound like a scam! Anyway, watchout next time!

...... it's not a scam. Granted, it's a poorly designed and executed online shop, but it doesn't look like a scam. I've never purchased from them (and I don't think I would, considering the site itself), but they seem to be on the level.

In defense of the site - The link in question does SAY windows .exe at the top right of the product page. Granted, they could make this area (and address possible compatability issues) stand out more, but the info was there - and if that's the only format they offer, there really isn't much they can do. I would contact them and ask for a refund of your money if you are unable to open the file.

Kolisar may be correct. I'm not entirely sure, myself - but you could drop a pm to Seige (on these forums) - he's an expert mac user of many, many years - if there's an answer, I'm sure he's the one who has it.

Price. They are cheap, so - like many others, I wanted to save some money. Who wouldn't? But of course that backfired as the tricks were cheap too...

I took a 2nd look at the site. It is written:
file type: .zip
file size: 2.6M
5.8 min at 56k
Nothing about .exe at all!!!
I contacted my local Apple dealer and they told me that .exe is a programme file and to view it on my Mac, I would have to buy a Windows simulator.
I'll just borrow a friends PC laptop and run this on it, then delet it.

Holy Moly!
I borrowed a laptop and was able to view the .exe files.
I only have this to say:
Do not buy magic from DownloadMagic.com at all!!!
It's lame, waste of time, waste of money and waste of intelligence!
With some of the tricks you can't perform the magic you have bought and downloaded, unless you own or buy additional magic items (which I don't have). With other tricks you have to gimmick the deck, cut cards, staple, glue... (it's a genuine kindergarten all over again) and then the tricks don't even look as good as the description is on their page, nore as the videoclips show.
Do not buy magic from DownloadMagic.com at all!!!
Concider yourselves warned!
