May 1978. I was in front of an open goal. The ball was crossed, I pulled my left leg back to slot it in when a kid on my team barged me out of the way from the right, tried to grab the glory but missed! I landed heavily on my left wrist and snapped the ulna and radius, giving myself an extra wrist in the process. People said they heard the snap. Anyway, they took me off to hospital in one helluva state of shock, where the surgeon declared that I needed putting out to fix it but that there were no theatres available so could I come back that night. That was a Thursday, and they kept me in. On the Sunday, they X-rayed it again through the cast and decided it needed opening up - hence the 12-stitch scar on my wrist. It's still pretty impressive whenever I have a tan.

When I went to secondary school, I used to tell people I got the scar from hitting someone so hard that I broke my own arm. It kept the local tap-heads out of my face, I can tell you!

not through sports, well, only if drinking is a sport...

...first wage packet, in a friends record shop after an afternoon of beer...i went out the back to make coffee and in my sozzled state i could smell something odd, and a warm feeling in my right hand, which soon turned into severe pain...

..when i looked down at the cause, i spied a lit joss-stick digging into my upturned right hand, burning a hole into the top of my hand...

it wasnt until i was sober that it felt rather painful..i still have the scar, so at least i have a nice e.s.p. symbol reveal nowadays..a perfect circle...

Speaking of drinking injuries, I once leant over to take a crisp from a bag and placed my forearm on a lit cigarette. Then again, one Christmas Eve I was waiting for a taxi, eating a bag of chips and not looking where I was going, when I fell off a kerb sideways and sprained my ankle so badly I missed Christmas. It was still throbbing at New Year.

I was drunk and walking down some steps and it was raining and I slipped and caught my arm on a nail that was sticking out of the wall, and I have a scar on my eyebrow from running into a pub table and somebody pushed a swing into the back of my head when I was much younger. I've never really had any fractures apart from chipping a bone in my foot when I was 18.

Sounds painful. Did you have to wear a butt cast?

...and did you have anyone sign it?

"would you mind awfully signing my buttocks please?..."

i suppose you'd have to trust them enough for them to not write "KICK ME" where you couldnt see it...

you'd be suprised of the injuries sustained in a game of Ultimate Frisbee. you can suffer from a serious case of frisbee wrist. or i once went to launch a frisbee the full length of the pitch when someone ran infront of me and caught it square in the chest, that left a nice bruise!

not so much of a "sport" but i took a contact staff to the face this weekend, that's not nice!

I saw "Jump London" and the follow up, "Jump Britain" it's called Parkour (sp) or free running. Amazing stuff, the founder, Sebastian I think his name is has got a part in the upcoming James Bond film
