Reset

Postby rcarlsen » Oct 16th, '05, 17:39

This is my version of Reset, by Paul Harris.

This effect uses 8 normal cards. No gimmicks. No dupes. 8 normal cards only.

As usual, all comments welcome.

Hello Rune ... VERY well done bud ... i've never seen that routine before and its very nice.

Just a couple of minor things ... I caught the first steal that you make, but its only because i was watching so hard.

secondly you flash a glimps of your break at the end after pressing the reset button.

But i was very impressed, and only caught the steal at the begining after a few times thourght the movie.

Thanks,

Rob

Thanks for your comments. I just didn't mind doing the video over and over again, to make it 100%. Remember, you never repeat a trick do you? So, basically, if I fooled you the first time, I am satisfied :)

That was sweet handling Rune.

I love your handling of the Elmsley Count.

Great work!

Very nicely performed Rune

Very much up to the usual high standard that we've come to expect from you

This is by far the best performance of Reset I have seen in my life. I really like the way you didn't use the paintbrush change. A lot of laymen can figure that out even if the performance is flawless. You have some very good ideas here. Now, I am going to go get my cards and learn your version. Thanks a LOT for this video!

does anybody have a video or and explanation of the original version of reset.

i have never scene the original, only been taught one by my good friend (his version) of the trick. i would like to see how it differs and if suits me more then the way i was taught.
thanks.

First of all, very nice performance - I love this trick and it definitely gets some of the best reactions. One piece of advice I would say is that you chose to not repeat the slow display of the jacks with the aces as in PH's original. To me that shows an element of asymmetry that an audience would pick up on - they would wonder why you didn't do the same thing with the aces, even though all 8 cards were on the mat at the start.

The original version of the effect can be found in Paul Harris' Art of Astonishment (Volume 1). There are many many versions out there though, including one in Giobbi's widely acclaimed Card College.

There's a version (the original I think) on Easy to Master Card Miracles 3 or 4. Lovely handling Rune, I didn't catch anything though I only watched it once, like a spectator. The only problem I have with Reset is that even if the handling is flawless, as yours was, to me there's still something a bit fishy about the way the cards are handled. Maybe it's because you wouldn't handle and spread cards in that way normally, I don't know.

Volume 3 TaR, under 'Set-Reset Plus'. I find the revelation of the final 2 jacks a little unwieldy personally, but it's definitely worth a look.
